Last week Broadway said good-bye to two more productions when “Purlie Victorious” and “Harmony” took their final bows.  While it fell a little short of the Million Dollar Club, “Harmony” had one of its best weeks ever with a box office draw of over $800,000 and a capacity  crowd of 98 percent.

This is the final week for “How to Dance in Ohio” which takes its final bow on February 11.

But even as the total numbers were down across Broadway, one musical gave the box office a major bump when Ariana Madix returned to Broadway to appear in the revival of the musical “Chicago”.  With a limited engagement, she will continue in the role as Roxie Hart until March 24.

With the departure of its two lead character, “Sweeney Todd” will be debuting its two new lead actors Sutton Foster and Aaron Tveit on February 9.

Winter on Broadway is a time of coming and going with some shows leaving for various reasons and other new shows coming in.  “Doubt” has just begun previews.  “The Notebook”, “Water for Elephants”, “My Son’s a Queer (But What Can You Do?), and An Enemy of the People will begin shortly.  “Patriots” will begin previews in April for a limited engagement.

There were just nine of the 25 shows running last week making the Million Dollar Club last week with “The Lion King” returning to the top spot with a box office draw of $1.67 million; “Hamilton”, “Wicked”, “Merrily We Roll Along”, and “MJ The Musical” fill out the top five.
