What would you do if you won the lottery?

The chances of winning a lottery are on the same level as getting struck by lightning; but still people do win…and sometimes they win really big.

While a jackpot for a lottery may be in the millions, the winners never see that amount of money; especially if they take the cash amount as opposed to spreading the payments out. And, of course, in the United States, the government takes a nice big hunk of the winnings – about one-third.
But if I ever managed to win the lottery, my first act would be to buy my dream house…but not the typical house. I want a boat big enough to live on. I think that it would be cool to buy an old Paddle Wheel boat or barge and refurbish it into a floating home.

I’m sure that would take quite a sizable hunk of the money; so I’m not sure what to do after that, but there certainly won’t be any gold toilet seats in my home!

Anytime a school district wants to cut the budget, they choose to cut arts and music programs – programs that are just as important, if not more, than the sports and academic programs. I know of a couple of music charity programs and with lottery money, I could make a contribution to them.

And maybe, if there is enough, maybe buy a couple of musical instruments. I would love to have a set of uilleann pipes and a hammered dulcimer. And I would definitely need a few lessons on both of them.

On some of the ads for the lottery they say, “all it takes is a dollar and a dream”. Well, the dreaming is easy and maybe the dollar isn’t so hard to come by – unless you buy a big bunch of them – but the winning is more of a dream than the dream of what to do with the winnings.
