List five things you do for fun.

Being of Nordic ancestry, I am always up for some fun in or on the water.

Due to transportation issues, I don’t get to a beach very often, but I am always ready for a trip. The closest I come to a beach these days is the one a year boat ride with friends…and I get to drive at least part of the time! If I’m not driving, I have the phone or a camera in my hand taking photos on the water or videoing the kids skiing and surfing.

Music is another one for me. There is always music playing in my home. Even if I am just sitting in the chair, I am frequently moving to the beat. It’s an auto reflex thing; I just start moving without even thinking. Sometimes I start singing along too.

Even if I am working a concert, it is still fun for me; because, well, it’s music!

Depending on the schedule, I also tinker around with my guitar. I’m not interested in trying to impress somebody or get up on a stage; I play because I enjoy the songs. My focus is Classical and Celtic. I have trouble with chords, so I don’t play them, but then again, it doesn’t matter. I play for me…and the teddy bears and baby dolls.

I’m not sure if it qualifies for fun, but I love to read. I have a Kindle (actually more than one – gotta have a backup) and I never leave home without my Kindle. It is as essential as my phone, wallet, and keys. I am currently on a reading streak where I have read for 870 days in a row! The Kindle app tells me how many days and weeks I have read. I have read over 50 books for the past two years. And I don’t mean short little books, I’m talking 400 plus page books.

You can learn a lot from reading, even if it is a work of fiction. One of my favourite authors, James Rollins, has a lot of scientific and historical stuff in his books. At the end of the book, he tells you what was real…and there is usually a great deal of the truth in his books. Plus, well, I can’t sit still and just do nothing, so while I wait for a ride or am doing the laundry, I read; plus I read every night when I go to bed.

In the end, fun it whatever you make it.
