Winter has fully set in across the country; which also means that the attendance at the two dozen plus Broadway shows is down significantly.
“Shucked” is the latest show to end its run and “Sweeney Todd” lost its two biggest stars with the departure of Analeigh Ashbury and Josh Groban.
However, thanks to Broadway Week and discounted tickets, attendance was up for many productions. Broadway Week runs through February 4.
Only nine of the 25 productions currently running made it into the Million Dollar Club last week with “The Lion King” leading the way. Normally, bringing in over $2 million each week, the show fell short of that mark with just $1,8 million. The remainder of the top five are “Hamilton”, “Wicked”, Merrily We Roll Along”, and “MJ The Musical”.

The discounted ticket prices put a lot of extra people in the theatre seats this week with 13 of the 25 shows reaching the 90 percent capacity. “Merrily We Roll Along” is the only show that reached 100 percent capacity last week.
Hoping for longer runs, both “Harmony” and “How to Dance in Ohio” have both announced closings in the coming weeks with “Harmony” closing on February 4 and “Ohio” on February 11.
