When the Prime Time Emmy Awards air on Monday night, it will celebrate 75 years of honouring the best in television. As a part of the annual ceremonies the Emmy’s will feature a number of reunions and classic moments from the history of television. Among the historic events is the bar from “Cheers” and the shows “All in the Family”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Game of Thrones”, “I Love Lucy”, and “Martin”. Executive producer Jesse Collins noted, “it was really about how can we celebrate 75 years of television differently.”
Collins added, “we just tried to pick ones (shows) that we felt like we could successfully pay tribute to. We have a pretty vast array of comedies and procedural dramas and talk shows, just trying to touch all the different areas.”
“black’ish” star and host of “We are Family” Anthony Anderson is hosting the gala event.
With the “memories” scattered throughout the show, executive producer Dionne Harmon noted, “the core of it is really celebrating television and to honour the shows of yesterday while we honour the shows of today.” The memories spread across all four networks; as well as, HBO which snagged a lion’s share of the nominations this year.
Some of the shows will have reunions of some of the actors; while others like “I Love Lucy” will get re-enactments since the primary cast have all died. Others like “All in the Family” and “The Carol Burnett Shows” have only two of the original cast members still living.
