A few more pieces of the NASCAR Silly Season puzzle have fallen into place with the signing of more drivers…

Spire Motorsports has been very busy since acquiring a charter late last season and a new Truck Series team.

Spire Motorsports has signed Craftsman Truck Series driver Chase Purdy to drive the number 77 truck in the 2024 season.

Spire Motorsports President Doug Duchardt spoke on Purdy saying, “Chase Purdy is really coming into his own as a driver and we think pairing him with a crew chief the caliber of Jason Trinchere will elevate his level of competitiveness immediately.  We put a lot of thought into putting Chase together with the right person and at the conclusion of that process, it was very clear that Jason is the person to lead the number 77 team. This is a combination we expect to set a very high bar in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.”

Purdy also spoke on joining the new team saying, “I’m really excited to get going on 2024 with Spire Motorsports.  Seeing what they’ve done in the last few years and the drivers they’ve had come through, being in that system makes me excited for the future. I’m more determined than ever. There are a few new people, Jason Trinchere, obviously being one of them, but, for the most part, we still have our same core group of guys so we’re looking to keep up that momentum from last year. I’m just really eager to get the new season started. I can’t wait to get to work.”

A Pennsylvania native, Trinchere has previously worked with Martin Truex Jr, Regan Smith, Jamie McMurray, and Joey Logano.

Trinchere spoke on his moving to Spire Motorsports saying, “I am excited for 2024 and look forward to working with Chase and everyone at Spire Motorsports.  Chase ended the season on a high note, showing speed and consistency, so I look forward to building on that momentum going into the new season.”

In the Xfinity Series, Young Motorsports has expanded their operation with the signing of Leland Honeyman Jr to drive the number 42 car full time.

Honeyman drove eight races in the Xfinity Series last season.  The 18 year old Honeyman previously drove for Young Motorsports in the ARCA Menards Series East in the 2022 racing season.

Last season Young Motorsports ran three trucks in the Truck Series with 17 different drivers.

Via a new release, Young Motorsports principal Tyler Young spoke on Honeyman saying, “we’ve already found success in the ARCA Series and have a blast working together. I look forward to taking this step with the Xfinity Series this season.”

Like many modern day racers, Honeyman began his racing career in go-karts before moving on to Por late Models and the ARCA Series.

The 2024 Cup Series will have three drivers competing for the Rookie of the Year honours with Josh Berry, Zane Smith, and Carson Hocevar all joining the top ranked drivers full time in the Cup Series.

After driving the number eight car for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series, Josh Berry will take over the driving duties of the number four Stewart-Haas car after the retirement of Kevin Harvick.

The 2022 Craftsman Truck Series champion Zane Smith has signed on to drive for Trackhouse Racing when they expand in 2025, but for 2024 Smith will be in the Spire Motorsports number 71 car.  This is not Smith’s first competition for Rookie of the Year – he won the award in the ARCA and Craftsman Truck Series.

Carson Hocevar showed his ability as a Cup Series driver when he took over much of the driving duties in the number 42 Legacy Motor Club car last season after the departure of Noah Gragson while competing for the championship in the Truck Series where he won four races.  In 2022, Hocevar drove his number 42 Niece Motorsports truck in the Truck Series with a broken ankle after a crash at Sonoma.  In 2024, Hocevar will be driving the number 77 Spire Motorsports car.
