Santa was very good to Broadway this past week with four musicals topping the $2 million mark and three productions reaching 100 percent capacity in attendance despite many of the productions playing only seven shows instead of the normal eight.
With the week ending on December 24, box office totals were $33,479,026 with “The Lion King” topping $3 million. “Wicked”, “Hamilton”, and “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” all topped $2 million. Filling out the top five, “Aladdin” just missed reaching $2 million. Fourteen of the 27 productions currently running were in the Million Dollar Club last week.
Attendance was also up with 17 of the 27 shows reaching 90 percent attendance. A total of 226,167 theatergoers watched a show last week.
Unfortunately the musical that took 30 years to reach Broadway – “Harmony” continues to miss the charts with attendance around 60 percent and bringing in around half a million dollars each week.
