The original drummer for the Australian rock band AC/DC – Colin Burgess – has died at the age of 77; just a month after his birthday.

The Internet Movie Data Base lists Burgess’ death as being December 16, 2023.

The news, which was posted late Friday night, was released on social media and gave no details of cause of death or the exact dates of Burgess’ death.

Burgess, brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, Dave Evans, and Larry Van Kriedt formed the hard rock band in 1973.  But Burgess was let go the following year after accusations of being drunk on stage.


Prior to forming AC/DC, Burgess was a member of The Masters Apprentices.  The band was inducted into the ARIA – Australian Recording Industry Association – Hall of Fame in 1998
Forming a number of bands with his brother Denny, Burgess has been a member of Honeybunch – later renamed The Haze, His Majesty, and the Dead Singer Band – a tribute band.

He was born in Sydney, Australia on November 16, 1946.

No list of survivors was given.
