After running the Street Race at Chicago last year…and winning…New Zealand native Shane van Gisbergen decided to retire from Australian Supercars where is a three time champion and pursue a career as a NASCAR driver. In September, he signed a contract with Trackhouse Racing – for whom he drove the 91 car at Chicago – in a development deal that would put him in vehicles in all three of NASCAR’s racing series.
On December 12, in a partnership between Trackhouse and Kaulig Racing, a deal was struck that will put Gisbergen in the Xfinity Series full time in 2024 and seven Cup Series races including a return to Chicago and the Street Race.
WeatherTech will be the primary sponsor for 17 of Gisbergen’s Xfinity races and four of his Cup Series races. WeatherTech is also sponsoring Zane Smith’s 71 Spire Motorsports car for the Daytona 500.
Gisbergen will run at COTA (Circuit of the Americas), both of the Superspeedway races at Talladega, the Coca-Cola 600, the Chicago Street Race, the road course at Watkins Glen, and at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in October in the Cup Series.
Along with the Chicago race last season, Gisbergen ran on the road course at Indianapolis in the Cup Series and on the oval at Lucas Oil Raceway Park in the Craftsman Truck Series last season.
