With just over two months until the 2024 NASCAR racing season begins, teams are still securing drivers.
Along with the normal merry-go-round of drivers changing teams are the new crop of drivers coming into the series, and a couple of retirements to open up spots for drivers.
This last week was a busy one with a number of announcements for spots being filled.
Having appeared in a handful of Truck Series races, Brett Miffitt’s younger brother Thad will be joining the newly created Faction46 Craftsman Truck Series team as a full time driver of the number 46 truck.
The Truck Series team Hill Motorsports has announced that Timmy Hill will be running full time in 2024 after running a part time schedule in 2023.
Our Motorsports in the Xfinity Series has announced that Anthony Alfredo will be driving full time in the number five car for the 2024 Xfinity Series.
Craftsman Truck Series driver Tyler Ankrum is joining McAnally-Hilgemann Racing to drive the number 18 truck full time in 2024. He drove the number 16 Hattori Racing Enterprises truck in 2023.
Announced just last week, AJ Allmendinger is remaining with Kaulig Racing but will be making a return to the Xfinity Series to drive full time with a few starts in the Cup Series throughout the season.
After driving part time for Kyle Busch Motorsports last season in the Truck Series, Jack Wood move to McAnally-Hilgemann Racing to drive the number 91 truck for 14 races.
Part time driver Dawson Cram is joining JD Motorsports to drive the number four car full time in the Xfinity Series for 2024.
A part time driver last season, Kyle Sieg is joining RSS Racing to drive the Xfinity Series full time next season.
Sam Hunt Racing has announced that Kaz Grala is not returning to the team in the Xfinity Series for 2024. No announcement of Grala’s future plans or a new driver for Sam Hunt Racing have been revealed.
After an interesting 2023 for Josh Williams, the Xfinity Series driver is moving over to Kaulig Racing to join AJ Allmendinger as the driver for the number eleven car full time.
Jake Garcia will be moving over to ThorSport Racing to drive full time in the Craftsman Truck Series for the 2024 season.
After driving the number 17 truck for Tricon Garage in the 2023 season, Taylor Gray will return to Tricon to drive the number 17 full time in 2024. Brother Tanner Gray will also return to the Tricon Garage to continue driving the number 15 truck full time.
Brennan Poole will be driving the Alpha Prime Racing number 44 car in the Xfinity Series full time in 2024.
Ryan Ellis will return to Alpha Prime Racing in 2024 but this time as a full time driver.
Jordan Anderson Racing has announced that Jeb Burton in the number 27 car and Parker Retzlaff in the number 31 car will be returning for full time runs in the Xfinity Series for 2024.
Stewart-Haas Racing has announced that Xfinity Series champion Cole Custer will return to the 00 car for the 2024 season. Just missing the playoffs, teammate Riely Herbst will also be returning to SHR.
In October, Aric Almirola ended all speculation when he announced that he would not be returning to the number 10 Stewart-Haas Racing car in the Cup Series for 2024. While he didn’t say retirement, Almirola announced that he was “ready for the next adventure”. For the past few years, Almirola has been talking about spending more time at home with his children. SHR has not announced a replacement for Almirola in the number 10 car.
Just 18 years old, ARCA Menards Series driver Jesse Love is skipping the Craftsman Truck Series and going straight into the Xfinity Series to driver the number two car for Richard Childress Racing full time. Sheldon Creed drove the number two car in 2023 but announced in October that he would not be returning to the team.
Austin Hill will be returning to the Xfinity Series to stay with Richard Childress Racing and the number 21 car.
Kaulig Racing announced during the race at Homestead-Miami that they and Chandler Smith were parting ways at the end of the season. Smith drove the number 16 car in which AJ Allmendinger will take over. Smith has not revealed any plans for the future.
After making the playoffs last season, Christian Eckes will return to McAnally-Hilgemann Racing to drive the number 19 truck full time in the Craftsman Truck Series for 2024.
Craftsman Truck Series driver Carson Hocevar is moving up to the Cup Series to driver the Spire Motorsports number 77 car. Hocevar drove several races in the Cup Series for Legacy Motor Club in the number 42 as a substitute driver in 2023. Ty Dillon drove the number 77 in the 2023 season.
Austin Cindric is returning to Team Penske to drive the number two car for 2024; joining Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano.
Hailie Deegan has spent the past three seasons driving in the Craftsman Truck Series. For 2024 she will be moving up to the Xfinity Series to drive the number 15 AM Racing car.
After replacing Cole Custer in the number 41 Stewart-Haas Racing Cup Series car in 2023, Ryan Preece is returning to SHR to continue in the number 41 car.
Driving for Joe Gibbs Racing for the 2023 season, Sammy Smith will move to the JR Motorsports number eight car to replace Josh Berry who is moving up to the Cup Series. The Xfinity Series driver will join JRM drivers Sam Mayer, Brandon Jones, and Justin Allgaier.
In an alliance between Spire Motorsports and Trackhouse Racing, Zane Smith moves up from the Craftsman Truck Series to the Cup Series to drive full time. Smith’s new car number has yet to be announced.
After driving full time in the Xfinity Series last season, Daniel Hemric is returning to the Cup Series to take over the driving duties in the number 31 Kaulig Racing car.
Back in July Justin Haley announced that he would be leaving Kaulig Racing to drive full time for Rick Ware Racing.
Australian Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen travelled halfway around the world to drive the number 91 Trackhouse Racing car as a part of the lineup for the inaugural Chicago Street race. Not only did the New Zealand native win the race, he expressed a desire to join the ranks of NASCAR drivers. Trackhouse Racing has signed van Gisbergen to a development deal that will see him driving in all three series over the course of the season.
With Kevin Harvick’s announcement that he was retiring from full time driving, a series of dominoes fell. Harvick’s longtime sponsors have moved on to other cars with Busch Light moving to Trackhouse Racing and the number one car of Melon Man Ross Chastain. Hunt Brothers pizza has moved to Team Penske and the number 22 car driven by Joey Logano.
And Stewart-Haas Racing has announced that Xfinity Series driver Josh Berry has been chosen to drive the number four car for the 2024 season.
Corey LaJoie announced back in August that he would be returning to the number seven Spire Motorsports car for 2024…and beyond.
Joe Gibbs Racing saw a good deal of speculation about its remaining drivers after the departure of Kyle Busch at the end of the 2022 season. All four of the JGR drivers will be back for 2024 after Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr announced that they would be back to join Christopher Bell and Ty Gibbs for 2024.
Despite a somewhat lackluster year in 2023, Harrison Burton will be returning to the Wood Brothers number 21 car for the 2024 season.
Front Row Motorsports has decided to exercise the option on Michael McDowell for the 2024 season and he will be returning to the number 34 car in the coming season.
Fellow Front Row Motorsports driver Todd Gilliland will also be returning to the team and the number 38 car for 2024.
After his suspension and subsequent release from the number 42 Legacy Motor Club car, Noah Gragson has since been re-instated but is considered a free agent and has not announced any plans for the 2024 season.
Legacy Motor Club has announced a change of car manufacturer from a Toyota to a Chevrolet.
John Hunter Nemechek is returning to the Cup Series as the driver for the number 42 Legacy Motor Club car. After dropping down to the Truck Series; Nemchek has again moved his way back up the ladder from Truck Series to Xfinity Series and now the Cup Series.
After returning to full time racing with Big Machine Racing in 2022 after a long absence to serve as a pit reporter, Parker Kligerman is returning to Big Machine to drive the number 48 car in 2024.
Matt DiBenedetto left Rackley W.A.R. in August; he has not released any plans for the future.
In August GMS Racing announced that they were ceasing operations at the end of the 2023 season; leaving Grant Enfinger, Daniel Dye, and Rajah Caruth without a ride in 2024. Daniel Dye has announced that he has signed a contract for 2024 but has given no detail. Grant Enfinger and Rajah Caruth currently are still without a ride for the new season.
