What positive events have taken place in your life over the past year?
A positive event that has happened over the last year effects not just me but my whole family.
In 2020, just as Covid brought the world to a standstill my nephew, Darius, was training for the Olympics for Team U.S.A. In boxing. The Olympics got postponed until 2021. Boxing did not hold any qualifying rounds and despite being the only heavyweight on Team U.S.A., Darius did not go to Japan.
Team U.S.A. Only took those boxers who had earned qualifying points prior to Covid. While his fellow teammates were earning points, Darius was at Prairie View University getting his nursing degree. Along with being a champion boxer, he is a registered nurse.
So, he turned pro!
In 2023, Darius has had six fights. He has won them all!
On December 2, boxing for Golden Boy Promotions, Darius not only won his fight, he won the WBA Continental U.S. Middleweight championship!
During his professional career, Darius has had a total of nine fights. In that time, he has yet to come close to boxing the scheduled rounds. In fact, he has not made it past the fourth round…and that was in just one fight! Most of those fights ended in the second round.
They no longer distinguish between a TKO – Technical Knock Out – and a KO – Knock Out. Now they are all called a KO and every one of Darius’ fights have been won by a KO. The fight in Las Vegas was truly a KO. The guy went down two seconds before the end of the first round.
Instead of a nickname, Darius has chosen the initials DFG for Destined for Greatness; and in a little over two years, he is well on his way! In 2018, Darius became a Golden Gloves Champion.
