While the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is more well known outside of musical circles, the Songwriters Hall of Fame pays tribute to the artists who write the songs.

The 2024 class of nominees for the Songwriters Hall cover a wide variety of songwriters and include solo artists and groups.

The non-performing songwriting nominees are:
L Russell Brown who penned the massive hit song “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree”.

Dean Dillon who wrote the Chris Stapleton hit “Tennessee Whiskey”.

Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter whose hits include “Ain’t No Woman”, “Nightshift”, “One Tin Soldier” ,and “We Built this City”.

Hillary Lindsey who penned the Country music hits “Jesus Take the Wheel”, “Blue Ain’t Your Color”, and “Girl Crush”.

Tony Macaulay whose hits include “Build Me Up Buttercup”, “Last Night I Didn’t Get to Sleep at All”, and “Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)”.

Timothy Mosley – better known as Timbaland – songs include “SexyBack”, “Get Ur Freak On”, and “Pony”.

Roger Nichols whose credit include The Carpenters smash “We’ve Only Just Begun”, “Rainy Days and Mondays”, “I Won’t Last a Day Without You”, and “Times of Your Life”.

Dean Pitchford whose songwriting credits include soundtrack hits “Footloose”, “Fame”, and “Holding Out for a Hero”.

Maurice Starr whose credits include “Candy Girl”, “I’ll be Loving You”, and “Step by Step”.

Narada Michael Walden whose hit song credits include “How Will I Know”, “Freeway of Love”, and “I Don’t Wanna Cry”.

Voting members have until December 27 to cast their votes for three nominees in the songwriters category and three nominees from the performers category.

Songwriters become eligible for the Hall of Fame 20 years after their first commercial release of a song.

The newest members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame include Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan, Jeff Lynne of Electri Light Orchestra, Carole King, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Brian Wilson, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Lionel Richie, Bill Withers, Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, and Phil Collins.
