The Major League Baseball season is over and the Baseball Writers have announced their post season award winners.  Now they turn their attention to the Hall of Fame and who is deserving to be a part of the 2024 class of nominees.

On January 23 the voting members of the Baseball Writers Association of America will cast their votes in a live event from the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York for the 2024 class of inductees.  The new members will be officially inducted on July 21 in Cooperstown.

The 2023 class consisted of only two members – “The Crime Dog” Fred McGriff and Scott Rolen.

Players must receive at least 75 percent of the ballots cast in order to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Eligible five years after they retire, 12 players enter the ballot this year.  Once a player is nominated, they may remain on the list for 10 years – unless they are inducted into the Hall of Fame or earn at least five percent of the votes.

A total of 14 players are returning to the ballot this year.  Gary Sheffield is in his final year of eligibility.
