During the final race of the season for the Craftsman Truck Series, Carson Hocevar tapped the rear of Corey Heim’s truck and sent him spinning. Heim was decidedly angry over the move; while Hocevar was visibly upset in the video from the truck. Hocevar was also very apologetic, calling the move an accident.
Near the end of the race, Heim retaliated, hitting Hocevar and sending him into the wall and ending his night of racing. Heim also did some damage to his own truck in the process.
On November 8, NASCAR ruled on the incidents, citing Heim for violating the NASCAR rule book’s Member Code of Conduct.
Heim claimed that the incident was an accident; however, after listening to the radio transmissions, NASCAR determined that Heim violated the rule book by attempting to manipulate the outcome of the race and the championship, posting a safety risk, and wrecking another driver.
Corey Heim was fined $12,500 and was docked 25 driver points. The point loss gives Heim 3994 points for the season and drops him on spot to fourth place in the standings behind Carson Hocevar. Heim and Hocevar were both in the final race for the championship.
