On October 25 NASCAR issued numerous penalties to teams and drivers in all three racing series that included fines and suspensions.

In the Cup Series, part time driver Ryan Newman was fined $10,000 for removing his head sock.  The head sock is part of the safety equipment required for drivers according to the NASCAR rule book section 8.3.2A and 14.2.1.1A and F.


In the Xfinity Series, playoff driver Austin Hill’s number 21 car was found to have two lug nuts improperly secured in post race inspections after the Contender Boats 300.  As a result, crew chief Andy Street has been fined $10,000 and suspended for one race.

Crew chief for the number 19 Joe Gibbs Racing car Jason Ratcliff was fined $5,000 for having a single lug nut that was improperly secured.  A multi driver car, Joe Graf Jr drove the number 19 for the Contender Boats 300.

During the race on Saturday, Dawson Cram’s number 74 car lost a wheel and Cram was held for two laps in the pits.  In accordance with the NASCAR rule book, competition officials have also suspended crew members Taylor Collier and Dale Holifield for the final two races of the season.


In the Craftsman Truck Series the ThorSport Racing number 98 truck driven by Ty Majeski was given a L1 penalty for violating sections 14.14.1.C of the NASCAR rule book which relates to the front suspension of the truck.  As a result of the penalty, Majeski, who was eliminated as one the drivers in the playoffs, has been docked 10 points; the team owner was also docked 10 points.

Gray brothers Tanner and Taylor’s number 15 and 17 Tricon Garage trucks were each charged with having a single lug nut improperly secured.  As a result, crew chiefs Jerame Donley and Jacob Hampton have each been fined $2,500 for the infraction.

And as was previously reported, Zane Smith and his number 38 truck were disqualified from the race after the race for an infraction involving the windshield supports.  A playoff drivers, Smith was one of the four drivers eliminated after the race at Homestead-Miami.  NASCAR issued no further penalties to the 38 team and team owners Front Row Motorsports did not appeal the penalty.
