After decades of not issuing any disqualifications, NASCAR officials have issued several for various infractions this season; including a first ever rescinding of a disqualification.
After the post race inspection for the Craftsman Truck Series following the Baptist Health Cancer Care 200 officials discovered that the Front Row Motorsports number 38 truck driven by Zane Smith violated the rule book in relation to the windshield supports.
Smith has had his second place finish disqualified. As a result Smith is listed in last place and also loses the 16 stage points he collected during the race. NASCAR has also stated that they will be taking the truck back to their R&D center in Concord, NC for further inspection.
Front Row Motorsports issued a statement saying, “we are disappointed in the disqualification from today’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event. We will continue to work and discuss with NASCAR officials back at the NASCAR R&D Center in Concord, N.C., before making any further comment.”
The disqualification does not affect Smith’s status in the playoffs since he is one of the four drivers that was eliminated at the end of the race. Coming in to the race in last place in the point standings and was in a must win situation.
