On a very hot fall morning, the Xfinity Series travels to Texas Motor Speedway for the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300. 

When the drivers take to the track for a 20 minute practice run the track temperature was 95 degrees.

A total of 40 teams have brought cars to Texas to fill 38 starting spots.  With the playoffs now in full swing from all three series, there are no longer any veteran Cup Series drivers in the races.

Just a few laps into practice Layne Riggs gets into the wall on his Xfinity Texas debut.  Jeb Burton barely avoided being involved in the incident.  Riggs said that the slickness of the track got the better of him.  The crew will be able to repair the car but Riggs will not be able to practice in or qualify the car.

Jeb Burton made an impressive run last week in a backup car; this week he brings a new car to Texas for the race.

Justin Allgaier has secured his spot in the next round of the playoffs after winning the race last week and giving his father and car owner Dale Earnhardt Jr a ride to victory lane.

Playoff driver Daniel Hemric got very loose on the track but saved the car.

Trevor Bayne steps out of the television studio again this week to drive the number 19 Joe Gibbs Racing car.  Bayne is looking to make a comeback on the race track.

Justin Allgaier tops the leaderboard at the end of practice with seven of the top 10 spots being held by playoff drivers.

The drivers will make one green flag trip around the track to make their best qualifying run.

The first driver on the track to make a qualifying run is Dawson Cram who posted a time of 30.210 seconds around the mile and a half track in his Xfinity Texas debut.

Kyle Weatherman is the first driver to break the 30 second mark with a time of 29.639 seconds.

After leading practice, Justin Allgaier put his number seven Reece’s car on the pole with a time of 29.188 seconds around the mile and a half track.  Trevor Bayne in his last scheduled start in the 19 car will start alongside Allgaier on the front row.

Blaine Perkins and Garrett Smithley failed to make the race.

Stages one and two of the race are 45 laps each with stage three lasting 110 laps for a total of 200 laps around the mile and a half track.

Chandler Smith, Joe Graf Jr, and Brett Moffitt will join Layne Riggs starting the race at the back of the field after the crews made some unapproved adjustments to the cars.

In 28th place, Jeb Burton is the lowest starting playoff driver in the field.

Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag start of the race from the outside lane with Trevor Bayne on the inside. Allgaier edges out to take the lead in turn one.  Sam Mayer gets into the wall hard with no grip.  He is slowed on the track and the track stays green.

Riley Herbst also gets into the wall and brings out the caution flag on lap two.

Sam Mayer is on pit road for repairs but takes his car to the garage to join Riley Herbst.

Justin Allgaier says, “Holy Cow”; noting that it is very slick on the top side of the track.

Currently the track temps are at 130 + with it around 125 inside the cars.

Several of the drivers are choosing the inside lane including leader Justin Allgaier after two drivers get into the wall on the top side of the track.

Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap eight and goes side by side with Trevor Bayne before getting out in front of Trevor Bayne for the lead.

The top five are Justin Allgaier, Cole Custer, Austin Hill, Trevor Bayne, and John Hunter Nememchek.

Lap 10, Justin Allgaier has pulled out to a lead of over half a second on Cole Custer.

Joe Graf and Patrick Emerling bring out the caution flag on lap eleven when they make contact and get into the wall. Emerling clips Layne Riggs, sending him into the grass.

Texas Motor Speedway is known for caution flags.  Over the past 12 races there have been 111 caution flags.

Out of the infield care center, Riley Herbst says that he felt they were on really low tire pressures when the race started.

Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 17 and goes side by side with Austin Hill before Allgaier gets out in front in turn three.

The top five are Justin Allgaier, Austin Hill, Cole Custer, Trevor Bayne, and John Hunter Nemechek.

Joe Graf Jr is on pit road on the “crash clock”.

Lap 19, Daniel Hemric gets into the grass and causes some damage to his car.

Out of the care center, Sam Mayer says that he messed up and misjudged the track conditions.

Lap 23, Justin Allgaier has a lead of over half a second on Austin Hill; Cole Custer, Trevor Bayne, and John Hunter Nemchek round out the top five.

Daniel Hemric’s crew reports that Daniel has the car he has, they can’t repair the damage.

Joe Graf Je is out of the race.

Lap 26, Justin Allgaier has a near one second lead on Austin Hill; Cole Custer, Trevor Bayne, and John Hunter Nemchek round out the top five.

Lap 28, Justin Allgaier has pulled out to a one second lead on Austin Hill; with Cole Custer over two seconds back in third.

Lap 35, Justin Allgaier has led every lap so far and has a one second lead on Austin Hill; Cole Custer, Trevor Bayne, and John Hunter Nemchek round out the top five.  There are 32 cars on the lead lap.

Lap 37, with a lead of over a second Justin Allgaier has the lead with 29 cars on the lead lap.

Lap 39, mired in slower traffic, Justin Allgaier’s lead is now under a second with 28 cars on the lead lap.

Sheldon Creed reports some issues with his car but he and the crew are currently unable to diagnose the issue.  He describes the car as “like being on skates”.

Lap 42, Justin Allgaier has a one second lead on Austin Hill; Cole Custer, Trevor Bayne, and John Hunter Nemchek round out the top five.  There are 25 cars on the lead lap.

After blowing by Sheldon Creed and Ryan Ellis, Justin Allgaier wins stage one in dominating fashion for his 10th stage win of the season.

Sheldon Creed edges out Ryan Ellis by ONE FOOT to win the “lucky dog” and get back on the lead lap.

Drivers come down pit road for service and cold water.   Justin Allgaier wins the race off of pit road.

While temperatures are near 100 degrees, the wind is also an issue for the drivers with sustained winds of 14mph and gusts up to 30mph.

Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag start of stage two from the outside lane on lap 52 with Cole Custer on the inside.  Cole Custer gets out in front for the lead.

Lap 54, the top five are Cole Custer, Justin Allgaier, Austin Hill, Trevor Bayne, and John Hunter Nemechek.

Brennan Poole brings out the caution flag when he spins out, runs through the grass, and slams the pit wall hard getting airborne.  Poole reports that he is ok.  Brennan Poole is out of his car.  Cole Custer’s crew chief reported over the radio that Poole hit the wall about eight feet from him and made him jump a bit.  Everyone got away from the wall and there were no injuries.

Joey Gase is stopped in the grass after spinning out.

Brennan Poole is out of the care center; saying that he was clipped from behind.

Cole Custer brings the field down for the green flag restart from the inside lane with Justin Allgaier on the outside on lap 64.  Allgaier and Custer make contact event before the green flag dropped.  Allgaier gets out in front to retake the lead.  Trevor Bayne gets really loose but gets control of the car.

Jeffrey Earnhardt gets into the all and brings out the caution flag on lap 66.  There is no new PJ1 – sticky stuff – on the track but there is some residual on the track and apparently causing issues for the drivers.

Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag restart rom the inside lane on lap 70 and goes side by side with Cole Custer before getting out in front for the lead.

The top five are Justin Allgaier, Cole Custer, Austin Hill, John Hunter Nemechek, and Trevor Bayne.

Lap 75, with 24 cars on the lead lap; Justin Allgaier has pulled out to a second and a half lead on Cole Custer.

Jeb Burton is reporting a vibration in his car.  The crew believes that the wheel weights may be loose.

Lap 77, Justin Allgaier has pulled out to a lead of nearly two seconds on Cole Custer; Austin Hill, John Hunter Nemechek, and Trevor Bayne round out the top five.

Lap 81, Justin Allgaier now has a two second lead on Cole Custer; Cole Custer, John Hunter Nemchek, and Trevor Bayne round out the top five.

Lap 84, Justin Allgaier is now nearly two and a half seconds in front of Cole Custer.

Jeb Burton reports that he feels like something is breaking in the car.  There are four laps to the end of stage two.

With a lead of over two seconds, Justin Allgaier sweeps the stages for his eleventh stage win of the season.  He has the most stage wins of the season in the Xfinity Series.  This is the tenth time that Allgaier has swept the stages in a race.

The left rear wheel on Jeb Burton’s car came off on the track and went rolling down the track after the stage had ended.

Drivers come down pit road for service with Justin winning the race off of pit road.

Josh Williams is out of his car with some over heating issues; Stefan Parsons will take over the driving duties in the number 92 car.

The axle cap came off of the number 27 car which led to the lost wheel.  He has received a two lap penalty for the wheel coming off; but he is three laps down after making repairs to the car.

Austin Hill had a slow stop after getting stuck in his pit box.

Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag start of stage three on lap 98 from the outside lane but it is Cole Custer that gets out in front for the lead.

The caution flag comes out on lap 99 for a big crash involving Josh Berry, Trevor Bayne, Austin Hill, and Kyle Weatherman were all involved.  Trevor Bayne made contact with Josh Berry to start the melee.  Austin Hill reports that his steering wheel is not straight and isn’t tracking the right way.  Due to winning the regular season championship, Hill has earned enough points to keep him above the cut line.

With three minutes remaining on the “crash clock”, Austin Hill makes another trip down pit road for repairs.

Jeb Burton takes his car to the garage for further repairs.  Crews are permitted to work on mechanical issues in the garage; crash repairs must be done on pit road within the “crash clock” limits.

Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 103 from the outside lane.  Chandler Smith gives Allgaier a push to the lead with Cole Custer on the inside.  Smith and Custer go side by side in a battle for second with Allgaier in the lead.

Parker Retzlaff gets into the wall but the track stays green on lap 106.

After getting lapped and earning the “lucky dog” at the end of stage one, Sheldon Creed has worked his way into the top 10.

Lap 107, the top five are Justin Allgaier, Cole Custer, Chandler Smith, John Hunter Nemechek, and Parker Kligerman.

Jeffrey Earnhardt brings out the caution flag on lap 108 when he gets into the wall and enough to knock the drive shaft out of the car.  He takes the car to the garage.

Out of the care center, Trevor Bayne noted that he had been loose all day; added that it was unfortunate that he got into Josh Berry and hated that it affected the playoff drivers.

Jeb Burton car owner Jeb Burton noted that this is the first mechanical issue for the team of the year.  The crew is working feverishly to get the car back out on the track.

Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag restart with 86 laps remaining in the race – outside the pit window – from the outside lane with Cole Custer on the inside.  Chandler Smith gives Allgaier a push and he gets loose and falls back in the field but saves the car.

Cole Custer is the new leader with Josh Hunter Nemechek in second.

Justin Allgaier said that he didn’t know what happened, he just didn’t have any grip.  He falls to 16th place.

With 83 laps remaining in the race, the top five are Cole Custer, John Hunter Nemechek, Parker Kligerman, Chandler Smith, and Sammy Smith.  Kligerman has some debris on his grille and will have to work to get it off.  The debris is gone; it appears to be some backing paper.

Dawson Cram spins out and brings out the caution flag with 81 laps to go.

At 99 degrees it is officially the hottest day for a Texas race.

Cole Custer brings the field down for the green flag restart from the outside lane with 76 laps remaining in the race.  John Hunter Nemechek is on the inside lane.  Custer slips a bit and John Hunter Nemechek takes advantage of the situation to take the lead.

After dropping back in the field, Justin Allgaier is just outside the top 10 in eleventh place.

Lap 228, Justin Allgaier enters the top 10 but reports that he is wrecking loose.

Josh Berry is slowed on the track.

Jeb Burton’s car is smoking and he brings the car down pit road and takes it to the garage with a broken trackbar.

With 69 laps remaining in the race, John Hunter Nemechek has a lead of nearly a second on Cole Custer; Chandler Smith, Sammy Smith, and Brandon Jones round out the top five.

Lap 138, Justin Allgaier enters the top five with John Hunter Nemechek over a second and a half out in front.

Lap 139, the top five are John Hunter Nemechek, Cole Custer, Chandler Smith, Sammh Smith, and Justin Allgaier.

Jeb Burton is out of the race with a broken trackbar.

There are only 22 cars on the lead lap.

With 57 laps to go, John Hunter Nemechek has increased his lead to two and a half seconds over Cole Custer; Chandler Smith, Sammy Smith,, and Justin Allgaier round out the top five.

Fifty-three laps remain in the race; John Hunter Nemechek has a lead of over two seconds on Cole Custer; Chandler Smith, Sammy Smith, and Justin Allgaier round out the top five.

Lap 156, green flag pit stops begin.

Justin Allgaier has passed Chandler and Sammy Smith and is up to second after Cole Custer made his pit stop.

Lap 156, leader John Hunter Nemechek comes down pit road for service and gives the lead over to Justin Allgaier.

Several drivers are reporting tight conditions.

The caution flag comes out with 41 laps remaining in the race for Daniel Dye who spins out.

The seven lead lap drivers come down pit road for service.  Austin Hill has a slow pit stop.  Justin Allgaier wins the race off of pit road to hold on to the lead.

Several lap down drivers take the wave around to get back on the lead lap but will have to restart the race at the back of the field even behind the lap down cars.

Justin Allgaier brings the field down for  the green flag restart with just 35 laps to go from the outside lane.  Allgaier gets out in front for the lead but has to battle with Daniel Hemric to hold on to the lead.

With 34 to go, the top five are Justin Allgaier, Daniel Hemric, Kyl Sieg, Austin Hill, and Anthony Alfredo.  There are just 17 cars on the lead lap.

With 32 to go, John Hunter Nemechek has entered the top five with Cole Custer in sixth.

Thirty to go, Justin Allgaier has a two second lead on Daniel Hemric; Austin Hill, John Hunter Nemechek, and Cole Custer round out the top five.

With 29 laps to go, Justin Allgaier has increased his lead to nearly three seconds on John Hunter Nemechek; Daniel Hemric, Austin Hill, and Cole Custer round out the top five.

Just 25 laps to go, Justin Allgaier has a three second lead on John Hunter Nemechek, Austin Hill, Cole Custer, and Parker Kligerman round out the top five.

Twenty-three to go, two and a half seconds behind leader Justin Allgaier, John Hunter Nemechek has run some of the fastest laps on the track.

The caution flag comes out with 22 laps remaining in the race for debris on the track.

Many of the drivers come down pit road for service with leader Justin Allgaier staying out on the track.

Saying the car “does not feel right”, Daniel Hemric brings his car down pit road.

With just 17 laps remaining in the race, Justin Allgiaer brings the field down for the green flag restart with Austin Hill alongside.  Allgaier gets out in front after a push form Anthon Alfredo.

The 12th caution flag of the race comes out for a crash involving Kaz Grala and JJ Yeley.  JJ Yeley spins out and Kaz Grala had nowhere to go.

At 12 cautions, it is the most caution flags this season.  The Texas track record is 13 cautions.  A total of 21 cars have been involved in incidents in today’s race; just 17 have not been involved in some sort of incident.

Daniel Hemrick is back on pit road for repairs.

Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag restart from the outside lane with just 10 laps remaining in the race.  Austin Hill gets out in front but Justin Allgaier comes up on the outside to battle for the lead and gets back out in front.

The top five are Justin Allgaier, Parker Kligerman, Austin Hill, John Hunter Nemechek, and Sheldon Creed.

Eight to go, Parker Kligerman and Justin Allgaier battle for the lead.  Kligerman takes the lead but John Hunter Nemechek comes up to pass Kligerman for the lead.  Justin Allgaier has dropped to fourth after getting loose.

Six to go, John Hunter Nemechek leads the race with Parker Kligerman in second; Sammy Smith, Chandler Smith, and Justin Allgaier round out the top five.

Four to go, John Hunter Nemechek has a half second lead on Parker Kligerman; Sammy Smith, Chandler Smith, and Justin Allgaier round out the top five.

Daniel Hemric brings his car down pit road.

Two to go, John Hunter Nemechek continues to lead the race with Parker Kligerman in second.

John Hunter Nemechek takes the white flag.

John Hunter Nemechek wins his seventh race of the season to secure a spot in the next round of the playoffs.
