After many years of writing for publications that paid rates that looked more like music streaming payouts than actual money; only to see them shutter or claim poverty and decide not to offer any more payments; I decided that it was time for me to go out on my own. If I was going to earn peanuts, then at least they would be my peanuts.
So late in 2017 I launched “Words, Music, and News” (wordsmusicandnews.com) where I focused on music, entertainment, and sports – things I know well.
I’m still looking to earn any money but over 5,000 articles and thousands of photos later, I’m still going at it.
There have been times that I have felt like maybe I should give it up but can’t seem to give it up. My Dad said it was because it’s who I am. So, I soldier on and keep hoping that maybe one day I will see some success.
I am backed up with articles to write and will never get caught up, but it doesn’t really matter anymore. I do what I can, the best I can and hope it pleases at least a few people.
There have been some small “victories” over the years. I met Tony Orlando and Johnny Mathis after covering their shows. Recently I was invited to cover a Darius Rucker concert; along with a handful of other shows that I have been asked to cover.
