After numerous delays, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures finally opened in 2021 amid the Covid pandemic.
This year amid striking writers and actors that has shut most of Hollywood, the Museum will hold its annual fundraising gala where the Museum will also honour Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey, Michael B. Jordan, and Sofia Coppola for their career spanning achievememts.
The October 14 gala is the major fundraising event for The Museum that spans the history of films and filmmakimg in Hollywood.
As a part of the strike, the Writers Guild and the actor’s union SAG-AFTRA has limited the promotional activities of their members during the strike. Ut both have given their approval for the October gala. With no talks currently going on, there is some question as to whether the strike would be over in time for the artists to participate otherwise.
The director and president of the Academy Museum Jacqueline Stewart issued a statement on the upcoming fala saying, “we are excited to gather again at our third annual Academy Museum Gala to celebrate the power, global impact, and indelible importance of cinema.”
