This week NASCAR travels to Michigan International Speedway for an Xfinity/Cup Series doubleheader.
Forty Xfinity Series teams have brought cars to the two mile track to fill 38 spots in hopes of running in the Cabo Wabo 250. Cup Series drivers Ross Chastain and Ty Gibbs; as well as Truck Series driver Carson Hocevar are among the field of drivers looking to make the race.
Ryan and Kyle Sieg’s cars were late coming to the track and were not able to participate in the 20 minute practice session after their hauler broke down yesterday.
Dawson Cram is the first driver on the track to make a qualifying run and posts a time of 39.471 seconds.
After running just a few laps during practice, Carson Hocevar puts out a time of 38,362 seconds for his qualifying run.
Chandler Smith is the first driver to top Carson Hocevar with a time of 38,329 seconds.
After leading in practice, Justin Allgaier posted a time of 38.239 seconds.
And Josh Berry tops his teammate Justin Allgaier with a time of 37.985 seconds to become the first driver to break the 38 second mark top put his number eight car on the pole. Teammate Justin Allgaier will start the race on the front row alongside Berry.

Mason Massey and CJ McLaughlin failed to qualify for the race.
Connor Mosack, Sage Kamam, Kyle Weatherman, and Josh Williams will start the race from the back of the field after crews made some unapproved adjustments to the cars.
Stages one and two of the race are 30 laps each with stage three lasting 65 laps for a total of 125 laps around the two mile track.
Josh Berry brings the field down for the green flag start of the race from the outside lane with teammate Justin Allgaier alongside. Justin Allgaier gets out in front for the lead going into turn one with Josh Berry taking second.
Austin Hill and Sam Mayer battle for third.
Lap two, the top five are Justin Allgaier, Josh Berry, Sam Mayer, Austin Hill, and Chandler Smith.
Lap three, Justin Allgaier has a lead of over half a second on Josh Berry.
With a wide track, the drivers spread out across the track.
Kaz Grala brings out the first caution flag of the race when he gets loose after air was taken off the car and ends up in the grass. While he does have a flat tire, Grala doesn’t think there is any major damage to the car.
Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag restart from the outside lane on lap 10. Getting a push from teammate Sam Mayer, Allgaier gets out in front to hold on to the lead. Josh Berry takes second.
Sam Mayer slides up the track but he saves the car and the track stays green.
Big crash brings out the caution flag on lap eleven. Sammy Smith, Mason Maggio, John Hunter Nemechek, and Carson Hocevar were all involved. Ty Gibbs gets loose and the drivers behind him just got caught up trying to get out of the way.
Ty Gibbs is very upset with John Hunter Nemechek when it was Gibbs who spun out.
Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag restart with Austin Hill alongside on lap 17 and edges out Hill after a push from teammate Josh Berry.
The top five are Justin Allgaier, Josh Berry, Chandler Smith, Austin Hill, and Sam Mayer.
Lap 19, Justin Allgaier has pulled out to a one second lead on Josh Berry.
Sammy Smith is out of the race.
The third caution flag of the race comes out on lap 20 for Mason Maggio who is stopped on the track after hitting the wall.
Austin Hill is reporting “chattering” in the front tires.

With a lead of over three seconds, Justin Allgaier wins stage one. The past five stage wins have been won by a JR Motorsports driver. All four of the JRM drivers finished sage one in the top 10.

Drivers come down pit road for service with Sheldon Creed winning the race off of pit road after taking only two tires. Josh Williams took fuel only.
Jeb Burton gets turned around getting into his pit stop after not being able to see the pit board. He has been charged with a safety violation and will restart the race from the back of the field.
Ty Gibbs and John Hunter Nemechek stayed out on the track.
Ty Gibbs brings the field down for the green flag start of stage two from the outside lane on lap 37. Ty Gibbs takes the lead with Sheldon Creed in second; John Hunter Nemechek, Riley Herbst, and Cole Custer round out the top five.
Ross Chastain restarts the race from the back of the field after the crew had to repair a hole in the nose of his car.
Drivers are spread out all through the field.
The fifth caution flag comes out on lap 39 after a crash involving Connor Mosack.

There may be some inclement weather popping up.

There is some debris on the grille of John Hunter Nemechek’s car. He reports that the temperatures are rising. Under normal circumstances, the teammate (or driver) in front would back up to let the driver with debris use the air to remove the debris; however, with the tension between the two teammates, that is not likely to happen between Gibbs and Nemechek.
Lap 51, John Hunter Nemechek goes high and passes Ty Gibbs for the lead; Riley Herbst, Justin Allgaier, and Sam Mayer round out the top five.

Lap 71, John Hunter Nemechek has a quarter of a second lead on Austin Hill; Riley Herbst, Josh Berry, and Brandon Jones round out the top five. Justin Allgaier is in 13th.
Lap 73, Justin Allgaier has advanced 18 spots since the race restart.
Lap 74, Justin Allgaier is just outside the top 10 in eleventh place.
Lap 75, Justin Allgaier has entered the top 10 and is just three spots behind Ty Gibbs.
Lap 76, the top five are John Hunter Nemechek, Austin Hill, Riley Herbst, Josh Berry, and Brandon Jones.
Lap 83, John Hunter Nemechek has a one second lead on Austin Hill; Josh Berry, Riley Herbst, and Brandon Jones round out the top five. Justin Allgaier is now up to eighth place.
After moving up from 35th to 10th place, Ross Chastain is unable to move forward reporting a very tight condition.
Lap 87, Josh Berry passes Austin Hill for second; John Hunter Nemechek is over a second and a half in front of the field.
Justin Allgaier has passed Cole Custer for seventh and is right behind Ty Gibbs.
The drivers cannot make it to the end of the race without making a pit stop for fuel.
Lap 90, John Hunter Nemechek has increased his lead to two seconds on Josh Berry; Austin Hill, Riley Herbst, and Brandon Jones round out the top five.
Lap 93, Josh Berry has cut the gap on leader John Hunter Nemechek to under two seconds. Justin Allgaier is still in seventh place behind Ty Gibbs.
Lap 96, Riley Herbst and Austin Hill battle for third.

Cole Custer is reporting a vibration; especially in the corners.
Sage Karam makes his pit stop and John Hunter Nemechek retakes the lead with Josh Berry in second, two seconds behind. Nemechek has encountered slower traffic.

After his penalty, Justin Allgaier is back in 19th place.
Josh Berry is very slowly closing the gap on leader John Hunter Nemechek; the lead is now under two seconds.
With 16 laps to go, John Hunter Nemechek’s lead is now 1.6 seconds on Josh Berry; Ty Gibbs, Brandon Jones, and Cole Custer. Mired back in the field, Justin Allgaier is running some of the fastest times on the track.
The caution flag comes out with just 13 laps remaining in the race when Patrick Emerling gets into the wall with a flat tire.
Cole Custer comes down pit road to address the vibration issue; along with a few other drivers. Leaders stay out.

With a lead of nearly a second and a half, John Hunter Nemechek wins the race for his fifth win of the season and gives Joe Gibbs Racing its 200th win in the Xfinity Series – 90 of those were courtesy of Kyle Busch.
