After a midseason break, NBC takes over the broadcasting for the Xfinity and Cup Series.

The Xfinity Series will get a chance to practice – the first time they have had a full practice session since Daytona – for the Tennessee Lottery 250.

AJ Allmendinger and Ty Gibbs are the only Cup Series driver in the 41 car field that will try to qualify for 38 starting spots.  Truck Series regular Carson Hocevar will also be doing double duty this weekend when he runs both the Truck and Xfinity Series this weekend.

Earlier this week, Stewart-Haas Racing announced that Xfinity Series and JR Motorsports driver Josh Berry would be taking over the driving duties for the number four car when Kevin Harvick retires at the end of the season.  Berry notes that now that the announcement is out he is feeling the pressure to perform…and it is close to Berry’s hometown of Hendersonville, Tennessee and expects lots of friends and family to be at the feeling; adding even more pressure.

The drivers only have one set of tires for practice.

CJ McLaughlin spins out and hits the wall causing some significant damage to his car.

On a hot summer Saturday afternoon the Xfiinity Series drivers take to the track to qualify before racing later this afternoon.  The drivers get just one lap to make their best time.  The first driver on the track is Dawson Cram who posted a time of 31.757 seconds around the mile and a third track.

While qualifying is always important for starting positions, the qualifying order for today’s race also sets the pit road positions for next week when the racers travel to Chicago for some street racing.

Brennan Poole gets loose on the track and taps the wall with the right rear of the car.  He posted a time of 31.970 seconds.

Joey Gase is driving the number 53 car that CJ McLaughlin practiced on Friday before getting into the wall.

Sage Karam gets into the wall on his qualifying run.

Connor Mosack had a good lap going when he got loose and ended up going sideways down the track before getting into the grass and coming to a stop just short of a pit road filled with cars.  NASCAR has red flagged the track to get the track cleaned up.

Josh Williams is the first driver on the track after cleanup and posted a time of 31.416 seconds.  Williams drove his car to the front of the qualifying line straight from inspection.

Halfway through qualifying, and Carson Hocevar continues to lead the list.  Hocevar battled Zane Smith in the Truck Series race to win the race.  Smith posted a time of 30,805 seconds to put his number 38 car in the pole position so far.

Daniel Hemric gets loose but keeps it off the wall and posts a time of 31.557 seconds.

Several of the drivers are getting loose on the hot slick track.

With a time of 30.493, Cole Custer puts his double zero on the pole for his third pole of the year.  Chandler Smith will join Custer on the front row.
