Last weekend Cody Ware stepped away from driving the number 51 car citing a “personal matter” as his reason for being out of the car.
Two days later it was revealed that Ware had been arrested in North Carolina on assault charges and that he had been suspended indefinitely by NASCAR.
With a bail of only $3,000, the Rick Ware Racing driver was soon out of jail; however, on April 14 Ware was arrested for a second time with further charges related to the same incident that prompted his original arrest.
The new charges against Ware are misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury and communicating threats. The victim reported “a displaced fracture of the base of the fifth metacarpal bone”.
After the second arrest, Ware’s bond was set at $5,000 and he must also wear an ankle monitor.
The 27 year old Cody Ware drove the number 51 Rick Ware Racing car owned by his father. Truck Series regular Matt Crafton drove the 51 car for the dirt race at Bristol. Truck Series driver and reigning champion Zane Smith will be driving the 51 car beginning this weekend at Martinsville Speedway.
