After the wild ride that was the first road course race of the season at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas; Ross Chastain takes over the point lead after his fourth place finish. Race winner Tyler Reddick moves up five spots and enters the top 10 in points.
Tyler Reddick becomes the first driver of the year in a Toyota to win a race giving Chevrolet four wins, one win for Ford, and one win for Toyota. With their win Toyota takes over second place in the manufacturer’s points with 206 points, two points over Ford; Chevrolet continues to lead with 217 points.
Last week’s point leader Joey Logano drops to third.
After six races in the Cup Series, there are five different drivers – Ricky Stenhouse, Kyle Busch, William Byron, Joey Logano, and Tyler Reddick.
The Hendrick Motorsports drivers continue to lag behind and Justin Haley is still at the bottom of the points standings with a negative seven points; but the Appeals panel will hear the case later this week over the 100 point $100,000 fines levied over allegations of modifying car parts. If the panel makes any changes to the penalty, it could significantly alter the current point standings.
