Loose lug nuts and tire issues have long plagued NASCAR teams and crews and are the biggest cause of penalties assessed to the teams.

After the Alsco Uniforms 300 Xfinity Series race on Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the number 16 Kaulig Racing car driven by Chandler Smith was found to have a single lug nut improperly secured during post-race inspection.  As a result, crew chief Bruce Schlicker has been fined $5,000.

There were a couple of incidents involving loose tires on pit road and vibrations on the race track during the race for the Cup Series drivers; but none of them resulted in any penalties outside of the race.  Under the new NASCAR rules, any crew that loses a wheel while still in the pit box or on pit road will serve only a pass through penalty with no further punishment; however, if the tire comes off on the racing surface, then the driver will be held for two laps and two crew members will be suspended for two races.
