Award winning Opera singer Angel Blue is being honoured by Wharton Arts with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The award will be presented as a part of the Wharton Arts Gala on March 9.
Blue currently portrays Violetta in “La Traviata” and became the first woman of colour to perform the role in the Teatro alla Scala in Italy. She made her international debut with the French Opera in “Tosca” and opened the Metropolitan Opera as Bess in “Porgy and Bess”.
The Wharton Arts gala is a three course banquet that features performances by the students and a live auction. Blue will also be performing at the gala event.
The LIfetime Achievement Award is presented to someone who has distinguished themselves with their creative contributions and presents a beacon of inspiration to future generations.
Previous Lifetime Achievement Award recipients include Jamie Bernstein, Paul Shaffer, and John Debney.
Executive Director of Wharton Arts Peter H. Gistelinck spoke on Blue saying, “Angel Blue is not only an amazing internationally-recognized and celebrated opera singer with huge credentials, but also represents the tenacity and courage necessary to persist in the professional world of classical music. Her career and life path are testimonies to this, and she definitely is an example to all of us. “
Blue spoke on being chosen as the 2023 Wharton Arts Lifetime Achievement Award saying, “I am so honored to be recognized with the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award of Wharton Arts, an organization I admire for their work and creative mission of offering accessible, high quality performing arts education that sparks personal growth and builds stronger communities. I am very much looking forward spending time with youth musicians and guests at the Gala.”
