It’s nothing like the NFL has ever seen before!  This year the annual Pro Bowl game travels to Las Vegas and Allegiant Stadium for a game like none other.

This year the players are leaving their pads and helmets at home and donning a flag for some flag football.

Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning will be the head coach for the AFC; while younger brother Eli will be the head coach for the NFC.  Snoop Dogg is also coaching for the AFC with Pete Davidson for the NFC.  The winning players will all get $84,000 with the losing team earning $42,000.

On February 2, the players participated in a skills challenge with the AFC winning the Precision Passing,, Lightning Round, and the longest Drive competitions; earning three points for each win.

Stefon Diggs of the AFC and Amon-Ra St. Brown for the NFC will battle it out for the Best Catch.  There is also the Gridiron Gauntlet, Move the Chains, and Kick Tac Toe.

The points earned in the skills challenge will be added to the game scores to determine the winner.  There are eight skill challenges worth three points each for a total of 24 possible points.  There are a total of three flag football games – the first two games are worth six points each to the conference winners; regardless of the final score.  The points from the skills challenge and the first two flag games are added for the third flag game to determine the winner.

In the flag football games each team has seven players but the center is only allowed to hike the ball.  Once a ball hits the ground, the play is over and not contact of any kind is allowed.  Game is two halves of just 10 minutes each  The field is only 50 years long.  The quarterbacks have just four seconds to get rid of the ball. There is no kicking in the game but the kickers will compete in a skill challenge.

None of the players have had any practice for the game.

The AFC takes the field first Tyler Huntley as the quarterback position.  The AFC scores first and goes up 6-0 after the extra point fails.

The NFC comes back and scores a touchdown and an extra point to go ahead 7-6.

On their next possession, the AFC turns the ball over and the NFC scores a touchdown after one play and goes ahead with a score of 13-6.

The AFC scores but fails to convert the extra point.  NFC leads 13-12.

The NFC extends the score to 20-12 after a one play touchdown.

The AFC scores a touchdown after a penalty where Jalen Ramsey is charged with a personal foul for tackling Tyreek Hill.  The AFC goes for two and ties the game at 20-20.

The NFC gets the ball back with only eight seconds remaining in the half and with just one second remaining in the half, the AFC intercepts the ball but does not score.

In the first half the NFC had only seven offensive plays.

The NFC gets the ball to start the second half and scores a touchdown after a five yard penalty when quarterback Geno Smith runs into the no run zone.  The extra point is no good.  NFC leads 26-20.

On their next possession the AFC makes a touchdown and the extra point is good to go ahead 27-26.

The NFC scores a touchdown on a fourth down play but there is a penalty flag.  The referee for this game is from the PAC12 and is unfamiliar with flag football rules.  The penalty was for defensive holding; the touchdown and extra point are good.  The NFC goes ahead 33-27.

The AFC gets the ball back with just 12 seconds remaining in the game but fails to win the game.  The NFC wins game one 33-27 and earns six points for the NFC to tie the score 12-12.

In Kick Tac Toe the long snapper, punters, and kickers must hit squares on a tic-tac-toe board.  The players must turn three boxes in a row or turn five squares to win the game.  The AFC lined up three vertical squares to win the challenge.

In the gridiron gauntlet there are four separate challenges – running through walls, an obstacle course, the tire run, and pushing the sled with the head coach standing on it.  The NFC wins the challenge to tie the overall score at 12-12.

For game number two Trevor Lawrence takes over as quarterback for the AFC and Jerod Goff is the quarterback for the NFC.

The AFC gets the ball first but the NFC gets a pick six and gets on the board first.  The extra point is no good.  NFC leads 6-0.

After a slow start, Trevor Lawrence takes the AFC down the field to score a touchdown to tie up the game.  The extra point is no good. 6-6.

The NFC takes the ball but is charged with a five yard offensive penalty and fails to score.  The NFC turns the ball over.

The AFC scores a touchdown in only one play; the extra point is no good.  The AFC leads 12-6.

The score is 12-6 with the AFC ahead at halftime.

The NFC gets the ball first after halftime but the AFC intercepts the ball.  But on the next play Stefon Diggs on the AFC throws the ball and is intercepted by his brother Trevon for the NFC and takes it in for a touchdown.  The extra point is good and the NFC takes the lead 13-12.

On a fourth and 20 the AFC scored a touchdown but the attempt for a two point conversion failed.  18-13 AFC.

With 31 seconds remaining the game, the NFC has a fourth and 19 but a penalty on both sides nullifies the play.  The NFC failed to convert on fourth down and turned the ball over to the AFC.

The AFC wins game two to lead 18-12 in the overall points.

In the move the chains challenge, five players must move a 2,000 pound wall down the field 10 yards.  Behind the wall are large metal rods filled with tires that increase the weight to 5,000 pounds.  In the first round the AFC players took the time to remove all of the tires to lighten the load and easily moved the wall while the NFC struggled.

For round two a new group of players took over and both groups removed the tires before moving the wall.  This time the win went to the NFC.

In the third and final round the best of the players from the first two rounds attempt to move the wall.  The AFC won round three by a very narrow margin to take the challenge.  The AFC increases their lead to 24-12 in overall points.

The final skills challenge was between the AFC’s Stefon Diggs and the NFC’s Amon-Ra St. Brown.  For round one the players had to use the trampoline for their catch.  Amon-Ra went first and had Michael Vick throwing the ball.  More than just jumping on the trampoline, Amon-Ra added a twist before catching the ball.  Stefon Diggs had his brother throwing the ball and chose to just jump up and attempt to catch the ball.  After three attempts, Diggs failed to catch the ball.

Getting scored by a panel of celebrities – Snoop Dogg, Pete Davidson, and LaDainian Tomlinson – Amon-Ra earned a score of 85 points with Stefon Diggs scoring 74.7.

For round two the players could use their imagination but had to incorporate a prop of their choice.  Amon-Ra chose to use the Lions mascot (several of the team’s mascots were on hand for the festivities) and his brother to throw the ball; along with Michael Vick.  Vick threw the ball which Amon-Ra’s brother caught after jumping on the trampoline and then tossed to Amon-Ra who was jumping over the mascot.  The stunt earned Amon-Ra a score of 92 points for a total of 177 points.

Stefon Diggs used the Pro Bowl cheerleaders and had Pro Bowl teammate Trevor Lawrence throwing the ball as he ran through the cheerleaders to catch the ball as steam came up in front of the mats.  Diggs only earned a score of 70.7 points and a total of 145 points.  Amon-Ra St. Brown won the challenge bringing the total to 21-15 in favour of the AFC.

In the third and final flag football game the points earned from all of the challenges were put on the scoreboard and any points earned during the game would be added to that.

The AFC gets the ball first with Derek Carr as quarterback.  After getting a penalty for an illegal shift, the AFC turned the ball over after a failed fourth down conversion.

With Kurt Cousins as the quarterback, the NFC takes over the ball but also failed to convert on a fourth down and turned the ball over.

The AFC gets the ball for their second possession but Budda Baker intercepts the ball.  Amon-Ra scores a touchdown but the extra point is no good; making the score 21-21.

The AFC takes the ball down for a touchdown but fails to make the extra point and brings the score to 27-21 AFC.

The NFC get the ball back with just 34 seconds remaining in the half and takes the ball down for a touchdown.  The extra point is good and the NFC takes the lead 28-27.

The NFC gets the ball first to open the second half and scores a touchdown and extra point to extend the score to 35-27.

The AFC gets the ball but quarterback Derek Carr’s earpiece isn’t working and he can’t hear coach Peyton Manning call in the plays.  The AFC takes the ball down for a touchdown but fails to get the extra point.  The AFC closes the NFC lead to just two points with a score of 35-33.

With only two minutes remaining in the game, the NFC gets the ball.  Penalties by the AFC erases a fourth down play and gives the NFC a first down with just 41 seconds remaining in the game.  Not wanting to give the AFC a chance to get the ball the NFC chooses to take a knee but flag football rules are very specific on what they will allow and Peyton Manning calls a foul that was not addressed.  The NFC wins the game 35-33 and Coach Eli Manning gets a Gatorade bath.
