If all of the Cup Series races in a single season are counted, it comes to around 40 races – exhibition, duels, races, and All Star events.  Which means a racer would have to drive for at least five years to reach the 200 race start.

Imagine…Richard Petty won a total of 200 Cup Series races during his racing career and current driver Kyle Busch has racked up over 200 wins across the three NASCAR racing series – Truck, Xfinity, and Cup.

Last week Kevin Harvick announced that he will retire from full time driving after the 2023 season; at which time he will have made over 800 race starts in his career.  He is one of just a few active drivers to reach the 600 start milestone.

Drivers with at least 600 Cup Series starts:
James Hylton with 602 Cup Series starts
active driver Denny Hamlin has 614 Cup Series starts
Hall of Fame driver Tony Stewart has 618 Cup Series starts
active driver Martin Truex Jr has 621 Cup Series starts

active driver Kyle Busch has 642 Cup Series starts and can move up four positions on the list if he starts in all of the races in the 2023 season
J.D. McDuffle has 653 Cup Series starts
Hall of Fame driver Dale Jarrett has 668 Cup Series starts
Joe Nemechek has 674 Cup Series starts
