Heavy.com has reported that 23XI Racing has found a replacement for Bubba Wallace this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

John Hunter Nemechek has been named to replace Wallace for his one race suspension.  NASCAR suspended Wallace after his on track contact with Kyle Larson that knocked Wallace, Larson, and Christopher Bell out of the race.

23XI Racing issued a statement on Wallace’s suspension saying, “23XI is aligned with NASCAR on the one-race suspension issued to Bubba, and we understand the need for the series to take a clear stand on the incidents that took place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  Bubba’s actions are not in keeping with the values of our teams and partners.”

The statement continued, “we have spoken to Bubba and expressed our disapproval of how he handled the situation. Bubba has made impressive strides this season and this experience is an opportunity for him to further learn and grow as a competitor in NASCAR. As a result of the penalty, John Hunter Nemechek will drive the number 45 Toyota this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.”

When Kurt Busch was injured at Pocono Raceway while qualifying for the race, 23XI had planned to put Nemechek in the car to fill in for Kurt Busch but Joe Gibbs stepped in and had Ty Gibbs drive the car.

Nemechek is a regular in the Camping World Truck Series where he drives the number four truck for Kyle Busch Motorsports.  The CWTS will be part of a triple header weekend of racing.

This will be Nemechek’s debut in the Next Gen car under racing conditions.  He was a part of a Next Gen test session for 23XI at Homestead-Miami.  He has not been in a Cup Series car since the 2020 racing season.
