Rap star and actor Common is looking to complete the alphabet of awards.  He already owns an Academy Award (Oscar), Grammy Award, and an Emmy Award; all that is missing from the EGOT is the T for Tony.

This fall Common will make his Broadway debut at the Hayes Theater in the Pulitzer Prize winning play “Between Riverside and Crazy” by Stephen Adly Guirgis.

Previews are set to begin on November 30 with the official opening set for December 19.

The play has previously played on Off-Broadway in 2014 with Stephen McKinley Henderson, Victor Almanzar, Elizabeth Canavan, Rosal Colon, Liza Colon-Zayas, and Michael Rispoli will all be reprising their Off-Broadway roles.

It will be the Broadway debut for Almanzar, Canavan, Colon’Zayas, and Rispoli.

Common will be replacing Ron Cephas-Jones as Junior.

The play follows widowed ex-policeman Walter “Pops” Washington and his recently paroled son Junior as they strive to keep their New York City rent controlled apartment.

Common earned his Academy and Grammy Awards for the song “Glory” which he wrote with EGOT winner John Legend.  He earned his Prime Time Emmy Award for the “13th”.
