After winning the Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway last month, NASCAR assessed a L2 penalty against Jeremy Clements when officials found an issue with the intake manifold on the number 51 car.
As a result, Clements was allowed to keep the win but had his bid to be a part of the playoffs taken away. Crew chief Mark Setzer was fined $60,000, the team owner and Clements were docked 75 points, and Clements would be docked 10 playoff points should he make the playoffs The team appealed the penalty.
On September 13 the National Appeals Panel ruled in favourites of Jeremy Clements Racing. The penalty has been erased and Clements regains his lost points and playoff spot. While listed in 16th place in the point standings with 435 points, he is listed eighth in the playoffs with 2005 points, tied with Sam Mayer. Clements becomes the eighth race winner to make the playoffs in the Xfinity Series this season with one more race remaining in the regular season.
The Xfinity Series concludes the regular season on Friday with Friday night at Bristol Motor Seedsay.
