It’s a doubleheader weekend for NASCAR and some road course racing. Five races remain in the regular season for the Xfinity Series with seven drivers securing their spots in the playoffs with race wins.
This weekend the NBC Sports crew is bringing the race “radio style” with broadcasters scattered around the track.
Cup Series regulars Kyle Larson, William Byron, Cole Custer, and Ross Chastain will all be joining the Xfinity Series drivers in the race. AJ Allmendinger and Ty Gibbs will also be racing in the doubleheader this weekend.
After a 20 minute practice session, the drivers are divided into two groups where they will each make a 15 minute group qualifying run. The top five drivers from each group will make a run for the pole for the Sunoco Go Rewards 200.
Ty Gibbs, Austin Hill, Riley Herbst, Kyle Larson, and AJ Allmendinger will move on to round two from Group A.
William Byron set a new track record in the Xfinity Series with a time of 71.789 seconds around the nearly two and a half mile track in his Group B lap.
William Byron, Cole Custer, Sam Mayer, Justin Allgaier, and Daniel Hemric will move on to round two form Group B.
And in round two of qualifying, William Byron set another track record with a time of 71.548 seconds to put his number 17 car on the pole.
Forty-one teams brought cars to Watkins Glen for 38 starting spots. Stunt driver Stanton Barrett, Spencer Pumpelly, and Truck Series driver Austin Wayne Self all failed to make the race.

After crews had to work on the carburetor of Kyle Larson’s car and crews had to deal with a brake issue on Justin Allgaier’s car, both drivers will have to start the race from the back of the field after qualifying in the top 10. Brandon Brown, Patrick Gallagher, Scott Heckert, Andy Lally, Timmy Hill, and Bayley Currey will also have to move to the back of the field to start the race.
Stages one and two of the race are 20 laps each with stage three lasting 42 laps for a total of 82 laps around the near two and a half mile track.
William Byron brings the field down for the green flag start of the race from the inside lane and edges out Ty Gibbs for the lead.
After setting a new track record in qualifying, William Byron leads the race with AJ Allmendinger on his bumper.

Lap three, Justin Allgaier has moved up to 22nd place with Kyle Larson in 24th after starting from the back of the field.

Lap four, Justin Allgaier has entered the top 20 with Kyle Larson in 21st; William Byron has a lone second lead on Ty Gibbs.
Lap five, Justin Allgaier spins out after getting loose and hits the barrier; bringing out the first caution flag of the race.
AJ Allmendinger reports a loose condition in his car.
William Byron brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap nine with Ty Gibbs alongside. After going side by side, Ty Gibbs edges out in front but William Byron retakes the lead in the bus stop. Jeb Burton spins out in the bus stop but the track stays green. Burton reports that the brake pedal went to the floor. Myatt Snider was also involved.
Lap 10, William Byron leads the race with Ty Gibbs on his bumper; AJ Allmendinger, Cole Custer, and Sam Mayer round out the top five.
Lap eleven, Ty Gibbs passes William Byron for the lead. Austin Hill has to make an unscheduled pit stop with a broken axel.
Justin Allgaier noted that “it stinks” to be out of the race already; adding that he had a car capable of winning the race and hated it for his team.
Lap 13, Ty Gibbs has a half second lead on William Byron; AJ Allmendinger, Cole Custer, and Sam Mayer round out the top five.
Lap 15, Patrick Gallagher brings out the second caution flag of the race when he gets stopped on the track with a mechanical issue.
Jeb Burton is out of the race with brake issues.

After staying out on the track, Sammy Smith brings the field down for the green flag start of stage two on lap 24 with William Byron alongside. Smith edges out in front as drivers make it a four wide battle with Smith holding on to the lead.
The top five are Sammy Smith, Kyle Larson, William Byron, Sheldon Creed, and Ty Gibbs.
Kyle Larson passes Sammy Smith on the outside to take the lead, William Byron passes Smith as well as he begins to fall back in the field.
After starting the race at the back of the field, Kyle Larson has the lead with team mate William Byron on his bumper; Sheldon Creed, Ty Gibbs, and Sammy Smith round out the top five.
Lap 26, William Byron passes Kyle Larson for the lead. Ty Gibbs had some debris on his grille but goth the grille clear.
Lap 27, William Byron has pulled out to a lead o over half a second on Kyle Larson.
Sammy Smith continues to fall through the field and has dropped to seventh place as drivers continue to pass him.
Alex Labbe is stopped on the track with damage to his car and brings out the caution flag. His car shows damage that coincides with hitting the barrier. Labbe exits his car gingerly and sits on the track once he is out.

Lap 30, William Byron has a half second lead on Kyle Larson; Ty Gibbs continues to battle with Kyle Larson for second.
Lap 31, William Byron continues to increase his lead on Kyle Larson and is nearly a second out in front.
Kris Wright brings out the caution flag when he gets stopped on the track. He reports that the engine is running but has no drive line.
When AJ Allmendinger made his pit stop at the end of stage one, he was sent back to the back of the field but on lap 31 is in the top 10.
Daniel Hemric is reporting a fuel line issue.

Kyle Larson challenges William Byron for the lead but Byron holds him off. Sam Mayer spins out and gets off the track but gets moving again and the track stays green.
Lap 35, William Byron has a lead of over a second on Sheldon Creed, Kyle Larson, Ty Gibbs, and Noah Gragson round out the top five. AJ Allmendinger is in sixth and beginning to challgne Noah Gragson for position.
Kaz Grala gets slowed on the track but gets the car moving again and the track stays green.

Lap 36, William Byron has pulled out to a lead of nearly two seconds on Sheldon Creed; Ty Gibbs, Kyle Larson, and Noah Gragson round out the top five.
Lap 38, Ty Gibbs and Sheldon Creed battle for second with Gibbs taking second. Kye Larson pass Sheldon Creed for third.
Cole Custer gets into the barrier but gets the car moving again and the track stays green.
Lap 39, there is a great deal of smoke on the track ans drivers battle for position but the track stays green.
William Byron has pulled out to a lead of over two seconds on Ty Gibbs; AJ Allmendinger, Noah Gragson, and Kyle Larson round out the top five.

Lap 46, William Byron has a lead of nearly half a second on Ty Gibbs; Noah Gragson is over a second back with AJ Allmendinger, and Josh Berry rounding out the top five.
Austin Hill is the only driver on the track not on the lead lap at eleven laps down. There are five drivers out of the race – Kris Wright, Alex Labbe, Patrick Gallagher, Jeb Burton, and Justin Allgaier.
Lap 46, William Byron has a three tenths of a second lead on Ty Gibbs; third place driver Noah Gragson is over three seconds back.
Lap 52, Sheldon Creed comes down pit road to start the cycle of final green flag pit stops.

Lap 54, AJ Allmendinger makes his pit stop and gives the lead over to Sammy Smith.
Lap 55, Sammy Smith makes his pit stop and gives the lead over to Riley Herbst.
Leaders have encountered slower traffic; William Byron is right on Ty Gibbs bumper.
Lap 56, William Byron battles with Ty Gibbs for position. They will be the leaders once all of the green flag pit stops cycle through.
Lap 59, Riley Herbst makes his green flag pit stop; Jeremy Clements is the new leader.
Daniel Hemric brings out the caution flag when he gets hard into the barrier that has the tire barrier resting on the hood and pieces of the barrier laying on the track. Hemric is out of the car and walks to the ambulance. Hemric runs head first into the tire barrier.
Crews are working on barrier repairs as drivers make pit stops.
Currently the track is dry, but there is rain in the area.
Myatt Snider is having an issue with his car and takes his smoking car to pit road.
Daniel Hemric said that a tire blew just as he was about to enter the carousel.
Pit stops have cycled through and Ty Gibbs is the leader with William Byron in second. Ty Gibbs brings the filed down for the green flag restart with a great deal of speedy dry on the track after Myatt Snider dropped liquid on the course. There are 15 laps remaining in the race. Drivers spread out three wide across the track as Ty Gibbs and William Byron battle for the lead with Ty Gibbs taking the lead.

Ten laps down, Austin Hill is the only driver on the track not on the lead lap with 23 cars on the lead lap.
With 13 laps to go, Ty Gibbs has pulled out to a lead of over a second on William Byron; Kyle Larson, AJ Allmendinger, and Noah Gragson round out the top five.
With 12 laps to go, William Byron is slowly closing the gap on leader Ty Gibbs; the lead is now under one second.
Sammy Smith passes Noah Gragson for fifth and is on AJ Allmendinger’s bumper.
Ten to go, Ty Gibbs has a lead of nearly a second on William Byron; Kyle Larson, Sammy Smith, and AJ Allmendinger round out the top five.
Nine to go, Ty Gibbs’ lead on William Byron is down to just over half a second; Kyle Larson, Sammy Smith, and AJ Allmendinger round out the top five.
Ross Chastain gets into the gravel and is stuck with eight laps to go; bringing out the caution flag. This caution ties the record with eight cautions. Anthony Alfredo also spun out but stayed on the track.
Ross Chastain is clear of the gravel and moving again.
Ty Gibbs brings the field down for the green flag restart with just five laps remaining in the race. Gibbs gets out in front going into turn one and William Byron are side by side. Kyle Larson takes the lead as Gibbs and Byron spin out.
