Over the years there has been a number of great musical acts to come out of the British Isles. On July to equal Seven million 19th one of those acts set a new record when the Official Charts Company announced a new record in single album sales.
Queen’s “Greatest Hits” album has been bought, downloaded, and streamed enough times by British music lovers to equal seven million albums sold.
A perfect present for Queen guitarist Brian May, he and drummer Roger Taylor made the announcement via a video saying, “we’re here to bring you the joyous news that Queen’s Greatest Hits album has sold seven million copies, which nobody has ever done before. No album has done this before in history. Thank you, we appreciate it.”
Roger Taylor added, the British public and their infinitely-great taste have made this the biggest-selling album in history. Thank you very much; we’re humbled and honoured. We salute you!”
According to the OCC, the “Greatest Hits” album has a total of 1.1 billion streams. The hit single “Bohemian Rhapsody” has 240 streams alone.
In the United States, “Bohemian Rhapsody” has reached Diamond Award status with 10 million copies sold/streamed/downloaded. The “Greatest Hits” album has been certified nine times platinum by the RIAA – Recording Industry Arts Association – as of June 2020.
