This week the Xfinity Series kicks off a doubleheader weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Crayon 200.
Cup Series regulars William Byron and Ty Dillon are among the 39 drivers vying for 38 spots in Saturday’s race. New Hampshire native and Late Model driver Derek Griffith is also a part of the field hoping to make the race.
Joe Gibbs Racing has a total of eleven Xfinity Series wins at the Magic Mile, including the past six years in a row. JR Motorsports has six wins this season.
After a practice session of just 20 minutes, the drivers have one lap to run their fastest lap to determine who will sit on the pole.
William Byron is the first driver on the track and posts a time of 30,192 seconds around the one mile track.
The only driver to break the 30 second mark, Josh Berry puts his number eight JRM car on the pole with a time of 29. 952 seconds. The last driver on the track, Berry even brushed the wall during his qualifying run. This is his first career pole. Daniel Hemric will start alongside on the front row.
Bobby McCarty failed to qualify for the race.

After putting his number eight car on the pole, Josh Berry will have to start the race form the back of the field after the crew had to make some unapproved adjustments to the car. Berry brushed the wall during his qualifying run. Akinori Ogata, Alex Labbe, Howie Disavino III, Joe Graf Jr., and David Starr will also have to start the race from the back of the field after the crews made some unapproved adjustments to the cars.
Jeremy Clements will also have to start the race form the back of the field after the crew made a tire change. Drivers must start the race on the same set of tires in which they qualified.
Whomever wins the race today, it will be their first New Hampshire win. No one in the field today has ever won a race on the Magic Mile.
Stages one and two of the race are 45 laps each with stage three lasting 110 laps for a total of 200 laps around the one mile track. The drivers will have to make at least one pit stop during stage three in order to make it the end of the race.
At 19 years old, JR Motorsports driver Sam Mayer is the youngest driver in the field.

Drivers are getting three wide across the track as they stack up in a battle for position.
Lap two, Daniel Hemric leads the race with Ty Gibbs in second; Trevor Bayne, Justin Allgaier, and Landon Cassill round out the top five.
Lap four, Ty Gibbs challenges Daniel Hemric for the lead.
Lap six, Daniel Hemric has a tenth of a second lead on Ty Gibbs.
Ty Gibbs passes Daniel Hemric for the lead and Trevor Bayne comes on the inside lane and passes them both to take the lead. Gibbs got very loose going into the corner in passing Hemric.
Lap eight, Trevor Bayne leads the race with Daniel Hemric in second; Ty Gibbs, Justin Allgaier, and William Byron round out the top five.
Lap 12, Trevor Bayne has pulled out to a lead of over a second on Ty Gibbs; Daniel Hemric, Justin Allgaier, and William Byron round out the top five. Josh Berry has moved up to 27th place.
Lap 19, Trevor Bayne has a half second lead on Ty Gibbs; Justin Allgaier, Daniel Hemric, and William Byron round out the top five. Josh Berry is in 24th place.
Lap 20, William Byron passes Daniel Hemric for fourth.
Lap 21, Ty Gibbs is closing the gap on leader Trevor Bayne.
Lap 22 Ty Gibbs has caught leader Trevor Bayne and is challenging for the lead.
Lap 23, Ty Gibbs passes Trevor Bayne for the lead.
Lap 24, Ty Gibbs leads the race with Trevor Bayne in second; Justin Allgaier in third is nearly two seconds back with William Byron and Daniel Hemric rounding out the top five.
Lap 27, Trevor Bayne comes up to challenge Ty Gibbs for the lead. Justin Allgaier has closed the gap to under a second on the leader.
Lap 29, Josh Berry has entered the top 20, 17 seconds back from the leader.
Lap 31, there are 31 cars on the lead lap.
Lap 32, Justin Allgaier has caught up to the leaders and passes Trevor Bayne for second.
Lap 34, leaders encounter slower traffic.
The caution flag comes out on lap 35 when Julia Landeaur and Justin Allgaier make contact and she gets into the wall.
Drivers come down pit road for service. Drivers who pit now can make it to the end of stage two on a single load of fuel. Ty Gibbs wins the race off of pit road. William Byron has a slow stop after getting blocked in his pit stall and has to back up in order to get out.
After staying out on the track, Ryan Sieg and Brandon Brown brings the field down for the green flag restart with just four laps remaining in stage one.
Ryan Sieg takes the lead with Brandon Brown in second; Anthony Alfredo, Ty Gibbs, and Myatt Snider round out the top five.. Josh Berry is in 17th place.

Lap 77, AJ Allmendinger is reporting a tight condition. Trevor Bayne is also reporting some handling issues in his car.
Lap 78, William Byron has closed the gap on leader Ty Gibbs to under a second.
Lap 80, Ty Gibbs has a lead of under half a second on William Byron; Landon Cassill, AJ Allmemdinger, and Trevor Bayne round out the top five. Leaders have encountered slower traffic.
Lap 82, William Byron passes Ty Gibbs for the lead.
Ty Gibbs is reporting a brake issue.
With just six laps remaining in stage two, William Byron leads the race with Ty Gibbs in second; Landon Cassill, AJ Allmendinger, and Trevore Bayne round out the top five with 29 cars on the lead lap.
Lapa 87, Landon Cassill passes Ty Gibbs for second.
With a lead of nearly three seconds, William Byron wins stage two.
As the drivers come to the start/finish line to end stage two, Noah Gragson and Daniel Hemric make contact sending Noah Gragson into a spin.

Drivers come down pit road for service.
Pit reports reveal that Ty Gibbs has a broken A-frame. After an extended visit on pit road, Gibbs comes out on the track but will make a second trip down pit road with the hood up.
Home town racer Derek Griffith stayed out on the track.
William Byron brings the field down for the green flag start of stage three on lap 98. The caution flag comes out after Julia Landauer and Matt Mills get into a wreck and send both drivers into the wall.
William Byron brings the field down for the green flag restart from the outside lane with Landon Cassill alongside on lap 104. Drivers immediately get three and four wide. William Byron falls back in the field with a tire issue. Landon Cassill is the lead.
Lap 105 in a three way battle, Josh Berry, Justin Allgaier, and AJ Allmendinger battle for second.
Ty Gibbs returns to the track four laps down.
Lap 107, Daniel Hemric brings out the caution flag when he gets into the wall with a flat tire. Hemric’s car comes to a stop with the driver’s side against the wall; he climbs out of the car and gets out on the wall.
After making a tire change, William Byron is one lap down.
Landon Cassill brings the field down for the green flag restart with Josh Berry alongside. Josh Berry takes the lead from the outside lane with Landon Cassill in second.
Lap 113, Josh Berry leads the race with Landon Cassill in second; Sheldon Creed, AJ Allmendinger, and Noah Gragson round out the top five. There are 25 cars on the lead lap.
The caution flag comes out when local star Derek Griffith spins out on lap 116. Griffith, who drives super late model cars, has had some power steering issues today.
William Byron is the “lucky dog” and is back on the lead lap.
Much of the field comes down pit road for service with 83 laps remaining in the race but the leaders stay out. The drivers are at the edge of the their fuel window to make it to the end of the race.
Josh Berry brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 122. Berry and Landon Cassill go side by side in a battle for the lead.
Lap 123, Landon Cassill takes the lead with Josh Berry in second; Noah Gragson, Sheldon Creed, and AJ Allmendinger round out the top five.
Lap 124, Noah Gragson passes team mate Josh Berry for second.
The caution flag comes out on lap 125 when Josh Berry gets turned around and a pileup ensues. Jeb Burton, Myatt Snider, Ryan Sieg – who go airborne -, and Riley Herbst were all involved. After being hit from behind by Jeb Burton, the rear end of Ryan Sieg’s car gets above the fence. Sam Mayer also has damage to his car in trying to avoid his team mate Josh Berry. Sheldon Creed and Brett Moffitt were also involved.
NASCAR has red flagged the race in order to get the track cleaned up.
Out of the infield care center, Jeb Burton said that there wasn’t anything he could do when he slammed into Ryan Sieg.
Once the cars get moving again, drivers come down pit road for what they hope is the final time to pack the fuel cell for the rest of the race.
After staying out on the track, Brandon Brown brings the field down for the green flag restart from the inside lane; but the restart is waved off when Josh Berry stops his smoking car at the entrance to pit road and climbs out of the car.
Ryan Sieg is out of the infield care center and is fine.
Once Josh Berry’s car is out of the way, Brandon Brown brings the field down for the green flag restart with Anthony Alfredo alongside on lap 137 with Brandon Brown jumping out in front. Drivers and three and four wide in a battle for position.
Lap 138, Brandon Brown leads the race with Sheldon Creed in second; Austin Hill, Landon Cassill, and Alex Labbe round out the top five. There are 23 cars on the lead lap with seven cars out of the race.
Sheldon Creed takes the lead.
Lap 140, Sheldon Creed has a half second lead on Brandon Brown; Landon Cassill, Austin Hill, and Noah Gragson round out the top five.
Lap 141, the caution flag comes out when Brandon Jones hits the inside wall hard. AJ Allmendinger and Alex Labbe were in a battle for position and make contact when Jones can’t get slowed down and hits the wall.
Sheldon Creed brings the field down for the green flag restart with 51 laps remaining in the race with Landon Cassill on the outside lane. Drivers quickly get three and four wide with Landon Cassill getting out in front.
Sheldon Creed comes up on the inside to battle for the lead.
Fiftty to go, Landon Cassill leads the race with Justin Allgaier in second; Sheldon Creed, Austin Hill, and William Byron round out the top five.
Lap 151, Justin Allgaier comes up on the outside to battle with Landon Cassill for the lead. Allgaier gets out in front to take the lead.
Lap 153, Justin Allgaier has a narrow lead on Landon Cassill; Sheldon Creed, William Byron, and Noah Gragson round out the top five.
William Byron passes Sheldon Creed for third.
Lap 156, Trevor Bayne passes Sheldon Creed for fourth.
Lap 160, Justin Allgaier has a half second lead on Landon Cassill; William Byron, Trevor Bayne, and Sheldon Creed round out the top five.
Trevor Bayne blows by William Byron for third. Byron reports that the car is blowing up. Coming down pit road he says that he has no power.
Lap 163, Justin Allgaier has a third of a second lead on Landon Cassill; Trevor Bayne, Sheldon Creed, and Noah Gragson round out the top five. There is just a third of a second between Allgaier and Cassill; but the third place drivers is nearly three seconds back.
There are only 19 cars on the lead lap. Over 20 seconds back, CJ McLaughlin is the last car on the lead lap.
With 32 laps to go, Justin Allgaier has a half second lead on Landon Cassill; Trevor Bayne, Sheldon Creed, and Noah Gragson round out the top five.
Lap 171, Noah Gragson makes a clean pass on Sheldon Creed for fourth.
The caution flag comes out on lap 173 for Akinori Ogata’s smoking car.
A few drivers come down pit road for fuel.

A Chevrolet has not won in the Xfinity Series in New Hampshire since 2007; Trevor Bayne is the only driver in the top 10 who is not driving a Chevrolet. Bayne is driving a Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing; the team who has won the past six races.

In his last two races at New Hampshire, Justin Allgaier finished third and then second…he is looking to complete the sequence with a first place finish with only seven laps remaining in the race.

With a lead of nearly four seconds, Justin Allgaier takes the white flag.
Justin Allgaier continues the JR Motorsports dominance of 2022 and breaks up the JGR dominance with a win. This is Allgaier’s third win of the season.
