The 2023 NASCAR Silly Season is in full swing; but that doesn’t mean that the 2024 Silly Season isn’t getting an early start.
On July 12 23XI Racing has dropped a major bombshell with the announcement that Tyler Reddick will be driving for the Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin owned team beginning with the 2024 season. Currently, Reddick drives the number eight car for Richard Childress Racing where he won his first race at Road America. He will continue to drive for RCR in the 2023 season.
While 23XI made the announcement that Reddick would be joining the team; they did not reveal whether Reddick would be a new addition to expand the team to three cars or if Reddick would be replacing one of the current drivers.
Driver of the number 23 car Bubba Wallace is in the second year of his contract and driver of the number 45 Kurt Busch joined the team for the 2022 season.
RCR issued a statement on the news of Reddick’s imamate departure saying, “we’re proud of the success Tyler Reddick has found at Richard Childress Racing. We’re focused on winning a championship in 2022 and 2023, although timing of this announcement could not be any worse.”
Reddick is a two-time Xfinity Series champion who has won in all three NASCAR national series. His lone Cup Series win is complemented by 10 Xfinity victories and three triumphs in Camping World Trucks.
After winning the Xfinity Series championship two years in a row, Tyler Reddick joined RCR in 2020 and was originally scheduled to drive the number eight car through the 2022 season; however, RCR exercised the option for an additional contract year, keeping Reddick in the car for another season.
Reddick also spoke on his impending team change saying, “for me, changes. My commitment to the team is as strong as it has ever been. I’d almost argue that now that I know the window that I have with them has an end, I feel like I have even more pressure on myself to give them everything I have with the time that we have left and that lies ahead. We have two opportunities to go out and have great years. We have the rest of this year. We have next year. For me, nothing changes. I’m going to keep giving RCR everything I have. It’s just good to know what lies ahead for 2024 and on.
