The Xfinity Series gets the double header weekend started with the United Rentals 200 at Phoenix Raceway. Forty-two teams have brought cars to the track for 38 starting spots in the field.

After a 20 minute practice session, the drivers get ready to set the field with one lap single car qualifying. Stan Mullis is the first driver to take the track for qualifying and sets a time of 29.770 seconds around the one mile track.

David Starr left pit road early and spun out nearly causing a wreck with Loris Hezemanns who was making his qualifying run. Both drivers get a do over to make a qualifying run.

Jesse Little practiced and qualfied the number 34 car normally driven by Jesse Iwuji.

Several of the drivers got loose on their qualifying runs.

Brennan Poole and Ryan Vargas did not make a qualifying run.

After making an early qualifying run, Trevor Bayne put his number 18 car on the pole with a time of 29.306 seconds.

Stages one and two of the race are 45 laps each with stage three lasting 110 laps for a total of 200 laps around the one mile track.

Drivers can run 80 to 85 laps on a single load of fuel.

Sam Mayer, Ryan Vargar, Justin Allgaier, Josh Berry, and Stefan Parsons are all starting from the rear of the field after crews made unapproved adjustments to the cars.

Joey Logano returns for a third week to join Adam Alexander in the FOX broadcast booth. Mexican born driver Daniel Suarez rounds out the broadcast trio for today’s race.

Pole sitter Trevor Bayne is still sitting on pit road as the field gets moving with some mechanical issues – the “kill switch” keeps going on and off. The crew is going to switch out a steering wheel.

Anthony Alfredo is also still on pit road. Afrredo did not make a qualifying run due to mechanical issues. He can’t get the car into gear and will have to go to the garage for repairs.


The drivers get the two to start when Trevor Bayne gets the car moving once again. He holds on to his pole position start.

Lap two, the top five are Trevor Bayne, Noah Gragson, Brandon Jones, Ty Gibbs, and John Hunter Nemechek.

Lap three, Sheldon Creed slaps the wall with a loose car but the track stays green.

Lap six, Trevor Bayne leads the race. After starting from the rear of the field, Justin Allgaier has entered the top 20.

Lap eleven, Trevor Bayne has a lead of over half a second on Noah Gragson; Brandon Jones, Ty Gibbs, and John Hunter Nemechek round out the top five.

Lap 16, Trevor Bayne has led every lap so far; Noah Gragson, Brandon Jones, Ty Gibbs, and John Hunter Nemechek round out the top five.

Lap 19, Trevor Bayne has a lead of over a second on Noah Gragson. Brandon Jones has been on Noah Gragson’s bumper for several laps in an attempt to pass for second.

Lap 22, Anthony Alfredo’s car is still in the garage.

Riley Herbst brings out the first caution flag of the day when gets into the wall with no brakes.

Riley Herbst has been checked and released from the infield care center. While fine, he said that it was the hardest hit he has ever had; adding, “it hurt”.

Trevor Bayne brngs the field down for the green flag restart on lap 34 from the outside lane and gets out in front for the lead as drivers get three and four wide across the track.

Noah Gragson takes the lead on turn two when Trevor Bayne got loose.

Lap 37, the top five are Noah Gragson, Trevor Bayne, Brandon Jones, John Hunter Nemechek, and Ty Gibbs. Justin Allgaier has entered the top 10 in eighth place.

Lap 40, Noah Gragson has a lead of nearly half a second on Trevor Bayne. Riley Herbst is out of the race. Anthony Alfredo’s car is still off the track in the garage.

Lap 42, Trevor Bayne passes Noah Gragson for the lead but Gragson comes back to make it a battle for the top spot.

In a photo finish, Trevor Bayne wins stage one.

The caution folag comes out on lap 55 when Ty Gibbs makes contact with Josh Berry and spins out with a flat tire. The crew puts scuff tires on the car to save the sticker tires.

Anthony Alfredo finally returns to the track and is 49 laps down.

Fifty to go, Noah Gragson continues to lead the race with Brandon Jones in second. Gragson’s lead is now over two and a half seconds. There are 18 cars on the lead lap.

Lap 161, Noah Gragson has led 92 laps so far and has a three second lead on Brandon Jones; Justin Allgaier, Josh Berry, and Trevor Bayne round out the top five.

Parker Retzlaff takes his number 38 car to the garage. This was the first time the 18 year old has been in an Xfinity Series race.

With 16 cars on the lead lap, drivers are beginning to make green flag pit stops.

Lap 167, leader Noah Gragson comes down pit road for service.

Kaz Grala had a tire issue but made it to pit road and the track stays green.

Justin Allgaier was charged with running over equipment in his pit stall and will have to servce a pass through penalty.

With 28 laps to go, Brandon Jones is the lead.

With 20 laps to go, Noah Gragson has closed the gap on leader Brandon Jones to just half a second. There are only eleven cars on the lead lap.

Lap 182, Noah Gragson has caught leader Brandon Jones and begins to challenge for the lead.

Lap 186, Noah Gragson passes Brandon Jones for the lead.

Lap 190, after serving a pass through penalty for running over equipment in his pit stall, Justin Allgaier has entered the top 10 in eighth place.

Noah Gragson has a lead of over a second on Brandon Jones iwht nine laps remaining in the race.

Five to go, Noah Gragson has increased his lead to nearly two seconds on Brandon Jones.

Noah Gragson takes the white flag.

Leading 115 laps of the race, Noah Gragson wins the race. He does an impressive burnout that blows out a tire and sets the track on fire and makes the car disappear. Before climbing the fence with his crew, Gragson and the crew gather around the fire on the track and “warm their hands” as if they were around a camp fire.
