The 2021 NASCAR season saw a number of changes when it comes to team ownership with Chip Ganassi selling the NASCAR section of his racing empire and the addition of 23XI Racing; as well as, the addition or submission of cars to existing teams.

Currently among the NASCAR teams, three are owned…or partially owned…by sporting legends – Joe Gibbs Racing owned by NFL Hall of Fame legend Joe Gibbs, JTG Daugherty partially owned by NBA star Brad Daugherty, and most recently NBA legend Michael Jordan as primary owner of 23XI Racing.

On February 1, a new NASCAR team is joining the growing list of former sports stars who own a racing team with the addition of TMT – The Money Team, owned by boxing champion Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather and co-owner William Auchmoody have spent nearly a year working on forming the team.

Mayweather announced that TMT plans on running a limited schedule for the 2022 season that includes the biggest race of the season – the Daytona 500.  Mayweather has named Kaz Grala as the driver of the number 50 car with veteran Tony Eury Jr as the crew chief.  The primary sponsor for the car is the Salt Lake City based sunglasses company Pit Viper. Co-owner William Auchmoody will also serve as the team’s general manager.

The number 50 represents Mayweather’s boxing record of 50 wins and no losses.

Grala will also be running a partial schedule in the Xfinity Series with Alpha Prime Racing.

Mayweather spoke on the new team via a release saying, “I love fast cars and I love to compete. I know NASCAR will not be easy, but anything easy isn’t worth doing to me.  With that being said, this move into auto racing seems to be a perfect fit for the Mayweather brand.”

Kaz Grala spoke on driving for TMT saying, “it’s an honor to be behind the wheel for Floyd Mayweather’s entrance into NASCAR.  It’s a really exciting time in our sport as it globalizes and reaches new audiences. I know Floyd is here to win, and I absolutely feel that everyone involved in this program is capable of making that happen. We know we will need some time to grow together as a new organization, but I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of building this team from the ground up.”
