Already a Chili Bowl champion, NASCAR’s Christopher Bell takes his participation in the annual midget car race very seriously…as seriously as he does when driving his number 20 Joe Gibbs Racing car in the Cup Series.

Hailing from nearby Norman, Oklahoma; the annual race is like being home for Bell. He won his preliminary race on Thursday night, ended up coming in second in the qualifier after being held up by some slower traffic. He will go for his fourth Chili Bowl championship on January 15, the final night of the compettition.

Bell’s eighth preliminary feature race in nine years ties Bell for the most such wins in Chili Bowl history. However, he holds the record for midget car feature wins for a Toyota car driver with Cole Swindell at 58; fellow NASCAR driver Kyle Larson has 35.

Bell spoke on his tying the record saying, “it’s crazy. Everybody knows how easy it is to have something happen to take you out of it. It’s unbelievable how many things have to go right to put yourself in this position. I’m incredibly thankful that I’ve been able to do it.”

Along with his three Chili Bowl championships, Christopher Bell has a Camping World Truck Series championship.
