Il Divo’s Spanish born singer Carlos Marin dies at the age of 53.  Band mates David, Sebastien, and Urs took to social media to announce the death of their friend and fellow performer.

Marin was on tour with Il Divo when the group announced a cancellation of shows due to illness.  On Thursday, December 16, Marin was admitted to the hospital in Manchester.  He was later placed into a medically induced coma.  While no official cause of death has been listed, Covid is suspected.

Il Divo band mates spoke on Carlos saying, “there will never be another voice or spirit like Carlos”.  He was the baritone voice in the group.

Seventeen years ago, music mogul Simon Cowell formed the pop-opera group featuring four international guys who perform classics, standards, and pop tunes in a variety of languages.

Born October 13, 1968 in Rüsselsheim, Germany; Marin’s family relocated to Spain when Carlos was 12 years old.  Long before joining Il Divo, an eight year old Carlos released his first album –  “The Little Caruso”.  He released his second album – “Mijn Lieve Mama” – at age 10.  He increased his musical studies to include the piano.  At 19 he became a popular TV star in Spain as a singer; including winning some television talent shows. He has also shared the stage with his wife.

Prior to joining Il Divo, Marin appeared in a number of operas and musical theatre producitons.

Marin is survived by his entertainer wife Geraldine, also known as Innocence on stage.
