Since the reopening of Broadway late in the summer, there has been only two productions that have had to close temporarily due to the Covid virus.   “Aladdin” was dark for a few days after a positive case.

On November 9, “Chicken & Biscuits” became the second production to go dark as the result of a breakthrough case.  Currently, the production will remain dark until November 19.  Even though the show is on hold, cast and crew will continue to be tested to ensure safety once it reopens.

As a result of the lost revenue because of cancelled shows, the production has announced that they will be closing sooner than originally planned.  The new closing date is set for November 28.

While it will no longer run at the Circle in the Square Theatre, producers have hinted that the show may go on in some form in another location.

“Chicken & Biscuits” producers spoke on the announcement saying, “we make this decision with a very heavy heart, as this production has brought so much joy into our lives during a very challenging time.  We witnessed first-hand the delights, surprises, laughter, and representation it bestowed upon a diverse and welcoming audience.”

The statement continued, “we have seen great demand from touring companies and regional theaters.  We are so grateful to the entire theatre industry and the generous audiences for embracing the play sowhole-heartedly.”

Anyone who has already purchased a ticket for the cancelled dates, may obtain a refund at the point of purchase.

Previews for “Chicken & Biscuits” began September 23 with an official opening on October 10 starring Norm Lewis, Michael Urie, Cleo King, NaTasha Yvette Williams, Devere Rogers, Ebony Marshall-Oliver, Aigner Mizzelle, and Alana Raquel Bowers.
