The 2021 NASCAR racing season has reached its final weekend.  The Camping World Truck Series gets the triple header weekend started off with the Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix Raceway.

John Hunter Nemechek, Matt Crafton, Ben Rhodes, and Zane Smith are battling for the championship.  They do not need to win the race, just finish in front of the other three drivers.

After practice and a qualifying run, Chandler Smith sits on the pole and will bring the field to green with Sheldon Creed starting alongside on the front row.

Camping World will present a bonus prize of $50,000 to the driver and another $25,000 for the pit crew to the driver who has led the most laps this season.

Jordan Anderson, Cory Roper, Johnny Sauter, and Tyler Ankrum will all have to start the race from the back of the field.

Stages one and two of the race are 45 laps each with stage three lasting 60 laps for a total of 150 laps around the one mile track.

Chandler Smith brings the field down for the green flag start of the race inside lane.  Drivers quickly spread out four and five wide across the track.

John Hunter Nemechek has some damage to his truck on lap two and falls to 26th place after some contact with the wall.

Sheldon Creed gets out in front for the lead with Chandler Smith in second.

Lap three, the top five are Sheldon Creed, Chandler Smith, Todd Gilliland, Ben Rhodes, and Carson Hocevar.

Lap five, in fourth place, Ben Rhodes leads the four championship playoff drivers.

Lap six, Sheldon Creed lead the race with Chandler Smith in second.

Lap seven, John Hunter Nemechek has to come down pit road with a flat tire.  The track stays green despite Nemechek’s smoking truck.

Lap 12, Sheldon Creed has led every lap so far with Chandler Smith in second.

The first caution flag of the race comes out when Lawless Alan spins out.

Lap 19, Sheldon Creed brings the field down for the green flag restart form the outside lane and holds on to the lead.

Lap 20, Sheldon Creed has a third of a second lead on Todd Gilliland, Chandler Smith, Stewart Friesen, and Ben Rhodes round out the top five.

Lap 22, Ben Rhodes and Matt Crafton are the only playoff drivers in the top 10.

Lawless Alan is out of the race.

Lap 25, Chandler Smith battles with Sheldon Creed for the lead and so far Creed has held him off.

Lap 27 The battle for the lead continues between leader Sheldon Creed and Chandler Smith; Todd Gilliland, Stewart Friesen, and Ben Rhodes round out the top five.

There is no out of bounds at Phoenix Raceway, if there is asphalt, the drivers can use it.

Lap 31, Chandler Smith took the lead from Sheldon Creed briefly, but the battle for the lead continues.

Eleven laps remain in stage one, Chandler Smith finally gets around Sheldon Creed for the lead; Todd Gilliland, Stewart Friesen, and Ben Rhodes round out the top five.

Of the four playoff drivers, Ben Rhodes leads in fifth place, Matt Crafton is in seventh, Zane Smith is in ninth, and John Hunter Nemechek is in 34th one lap down.

Lap 39, Chandler Smith has pulled out to a lead of over half a second on Sheldon Creed.

As the sun sets, the desert temperatures begin to cool.

With a lead of over two seconds, Chandler Smith wins stage one for his second stage win.

Lap 57, Sheldon Creed has a third of a second lead on Ben Rhodes.

Ty Dillon gets into the wall but the track stays green.

Lap 60, Sheldon Creed continues to lead the race with Ben Rhodes in second; Chandler Smith, Todd Gilliland, and Stewart Friesen round out the top five.

Lap 63, Sheldon Creed has a half second lead on Ben Rhodes; Chandler Smith, Todd Gilliland, and Stewart Friesen round out the top five.

Lap 68, Sheldon Creed leads the race; Chandler Smith battles Ben Rhodes for second with Todd Gilliland and Stewart Friesen rounding out the top five.

Lap 72, Sheldon Creed has pulled out to a lead of nearly a second on Ben Rhodes; Chandler Smith, Todd Gilliland, and Stewart Friesen round out the top five. 


Playoff drivers Zane Smith and Matt Crafton are in the top 10 with John Hunter Nemechek one lap down.

Tanner Gray returns to the track 15 laps down.

Ten laps remain in stage two, Sheldon Creed has clinched the bonus prize for leading the most laps this season.

Lap 82, John Hunter Nemechek is in 27th place, the first truck one lap down.

Lap 83, Sheldon Creed leads the race but Chandler Smith is on Creed’s bumper once again and challenging for the lead.

Sheldon Creed passes Austin Wayne Self to put him one lap down; taking Nemechek out of the “lucky dog” spot.

Four laps remain in stage two, Sheldon Creed holds on to the lead with Chandler Smith in second; Ben Rhodes is in third spot over a second back.

Lap 59, Chandler Smith gets around Sheldon Creed to take the lead.

Sheldon Creed brings the field down for the green flag restart with 45 laps remaining in the race.  Drivers gets four and five wide across the track with Sheldon Creed leading the race.

The top five are Sheldon Creed, Stewart Friesen, Ben Rhodes, Christian Eckes, and Zane Smith.

After leading the championship four all night, Zane Smith passes Ben Rhodes to lead the championship race.

With 38 laps to go, John Hunter Nemechek has moved up to 16th place.

After being at least one lap down for 89 laps, John Hunter Nemechek is just outside the top 10 in eleventh with 27 laps remaining in the race.

With just 14 laps to go, Chandler Smith has retaken the lead and pulled out to a lead of over a second; Sheldon Creed, Stewart Friesen, Zane Smith, and Ben Rhodes round out the top five.

Ben Rhodes passes Zane Smith for fourth and retakes the lead in the championship race.

With eight laps remaining in the race, Chandler Smith has increased his lead to over three seconds on Stewart Friesen.

Six to go, Chandler Smith is driving away with it with a lead of nearly four seconds on Stewart Friesen; Ben Rhodes, Sheldon Creed, and Zane Smith round out the top five.

Three to go, Chandler Smith has a near four second lead on Stewart Friesen.  Jordan Anderson gets into the wall but the track stays green.  Ben Rhodes has a lead of over a second on Zane Smith in the battle for the championship.

With a lead of over four seconds, Chandler Smith wins the race for the sweep.

Ben Rhodes is the 2021 Camping World Truck Series champion for his first Truck Series championship.  This is also the first owner’s championship for ThorSports Racing owners Duke and Rhonda Thorson.  Along with the championship trophy, Camping World is presenting Rhodes with a bonus check of $140,000.
