The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season brought two new teams to the field with 23 XI Racing and Trackhouse Racing. The 2022 racing season will see another new team on pit road when Team Hereberg joins the Cup Series for a limited season run.
Hezeberg Racing will field the orange number 27 Ford and is owned by former sports car driver Toine Hezemans and Dutch businessman Ernst Berg. Reaume Brothers Racing will manage race operations from the team’s American home in Moorseville, North Carolina. Reaume Brothers Racing currently field two teams in the Camping World Truck Series but have not cemented Truck Series plans for the 2022 season.
Dutch driver Loris Hezemans will be the team’s primary driver. Hezemans currently drives in the Whelen Euro Series and will make his fourth Xfinity Series start at The Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway starting 34th in the number 66 car.
Currently Hezeberg Racing plans to focus on the six road course races next season but has not ruled out the possibility of running more races.
While on a trip to the U.S., Herzemans saw the Next Gen car that NASCAR will be running in the Cup Series beginning with the 2022 season and noted that there are similarities between that car and the Euro Series he currently drives.
Hezemans spoke on the new team saying, “we got interested in seeing what would be possible. It’s incredible to now finally be here, yesterday finally seeing the car for the first time. I don’t even have words to describe it — a very exciting moment.”
Hezeberg Racing will test the car next week on The Roval with Hezemans and former Indianapolis 500 winner Jacques Villeneuve sharing the driving duties.
