Broadway fans got a glimpse of the group Freestyle Love Supreme during the annual Tony Awards television broadcast last month.
The Improv Hip-Hop group returns to Broadway with a limited run beginning October 19. Previews at the Booth Theatre have begun. The show will run through the remainder of the year with an end scheduled for January 2, 2022.
Anthony Veneziale conceived the idea of a company of artists who rap, sing, beat box, and spread a little laughter; and with the help of “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and Thomas Kail created the troupe. Using suggestions form the audience, Freestyle Love Supreme creates an original show with each and every performance.
Show director Thomas Kail spoke on the production saying, “we are thrilled to be back on Broadway and part of this theatrical community we love so much. The immediacy of our show, with its content driven by audience suggestion, makes it one of the rare shows that can speak to whatever is happening in the moment. We cannot wait to be onstage at the Booth Theatre making people laugh.”
Each night Jelly Donut, The Lord and Lady Crowley, Tardis Hardaway, Young Nees, Shockwave, and Two-Touch will entertain fans with their unique style of entertainment.
During the course of the limited run, the troupe will also have some special guest performers which may include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Christopher Jackson, Daveed Diggs, James Monroe Iglehart, Alex Lacomoire, Wayne Brady, Ashley Pérez Flanagan, Arthur Lewis, Bill Sherman, and Utkarsh Ambudkar.
