As a part of the Super Bowl festivities, the NFL honours one player with the Walter Payton Award each year. The award isn’t for what the player did on the field of play but what he does outside the football field.

In Major League Baseball, the award is named after Roberto Clemente. The Puerto Rican born players was killed in a plane crash trying to deliver relief supplies to an earthquake hit Nicaragua in 1972.

Each of the 30 teams in Major League Baseball nominates the player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.

The Hall of Fame Clemente was the first Latin player to reach 3,000 hits between his 1955 debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates and his death in 1972.

Fans may also cast their votes for the player they feel best exemplifies what Clemente brought to baseball at
