Actor Michael K. Williams was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment on September 6, 2021. The cause of death is currently being investigated.
While Williams appeared in over 100 different film nad television productions, he is best known for portraying Omar Little on the television series “The Wire”.
He got his start not as an actor, but as a professional dancer where he worked with Madonna and George Michael.

He earned a Screen Actors Guild Award for his portrayal Chalky White on “Boardwalk Empire”.
While he has appeared in a number of music videos as a backup dancer, Williams made his acting debut in 1996 in “Bullet”. From there he went on to appear in over 100 productions including “The Sopranos”, “Third Watch”, “Lackawanna Blues”, “Boston Legal”, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”, “The Wire”, “Incredible Hulk”, “CSI: NY”, “Law & Order”, “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, “12 Years a Slave”, “RoboCop”, “Boardwalk Empire”, “Bessie”, the “Ghostbusters” remake, “The Night Of”, “When They See Us”, “Lovecraft Country”, and his final role in “F is for Family”.
Williams also had a number of productions in various stages of completion at the time of his death including two that were completed but not yet aired.
When not on camera, Williams is an activist for the young and those who have served time in prison. An Ambassador of Smart Justice with the ACLU, he has worked to build community centers and safe places for children; as well as, helping people released from prison re-adjust to society outside of jail.
He was born Michael Kenneth Williams on November 22, 1966 in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. Williams has three children, Elijah, Karim, and Chanel.
