Last year the Xfinity Series made their debut on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. But this year its even more special…the fans are in the stands.

IndyCar got the day of racing started off running the road course with Will Power giving Roger Penske his first win as the owner of the car and the track.

After running the road course at Watkins Glen last week, the Xfinity Series makes it two in a row for more road course racing at IMS.

In a rare qualifying event, AJ Allmendinger Last week sit on the pole and bring the field to green for the Penzoil 150 at the Brickyard. Austin Cindric will start alongside on the front row.

Kyle Busch is no longer eligible to run an Xfinity Series race this season, fellow Cup Series drivers Kevin Harvick, Austin Dillon, and Chase Elliott are in the field today. Chase Elliott is sitting in for injured driver Michael Annett who is still recovering from a leg injury.

While Annett received a waiver from NASCAR for the races he has missed, he is currently on the bubble to make it to the playoffs.

Eighteen year old Ty Gibbs took home the checkered flag last week at Watkins Glen. The young driver has run 10 races this season and has won three of them – two of them on road courses. During his pre-race interview, Gibbs had a Monster Energy drink in each hand alternating them as he drank.

IndyCar driver Colton Herta grew up around race cars but admitted that until today, he had never seen a stock car. With an early race, young Colton – who finished third in the IndyCar race – says that he is ready to be a race fan and watch his first stock car race.

IndyCar driver Sage Karam is making his Xfinity Series debut. He has run the Indy 500 eight times, but this is the first time he will drive a stock car on the track.

Again this week, the NBC Sports broadcasters are calling the race radio style with Mike Bagley, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Jeff Burton.

For the drivers who have run the oval, today’s race is completely backwards to what they are used to.

Landon Cassill, Kyle Weatherman, Sam Mayer, and Austin Dillon all have to start the race from the back of the field after crews made some unapproved adjustments.

Stages one and two of the race are 20 laps each with stage three lasting 22 laps for a total of 62 laps around the two and a half mile course.

With a fuel load of 34 to 36 laps, drivers can make the race on a single pit stop.

AJ Allmendinger brings the field down for the green flag start of the race from the inside lane and edges out in front for the lead with drivers getting three wide across the track.

Justin Haley takes the lead in turn two.

Drivers are wrecking but the track stays green. Josh Bilicki and Preston Pardus were involved. Drivers were jumping the curb in turns five and six; causing some damage to the cars.

AJ Allmendinger gets off the track but gets things going again.

The caution flag comes out on lap two after Preston Pardus is stopped on the track.

Brandon Jones has some significant damage to his car. Kevin Harvick and Harrison Burton also have some damage.

At the time of the caution, Justin Haley leads the race with Austin Cindric in second; Ty Gibbs, Justin Allgaier, and Noah Gragson round out the top five.

Kevin Harvick reports that the sway bar is knocked off of the car. Brandon Jones and Kevin Harvick’s crews have pushed the cars to the garage.

Justin Haley brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap five and goes nose to nose with Ty Gibbs for the lead.

Lap six, Justin Haley has a lead of over half a second on Austin Cindric. Preston Pardus, Brandon Jones, and Brandon Brown are all out of the race. Kevin Harvick is off the track for repairs.

Lap seven, AJ Allmendinger missed a couple of turns on lap one and is now in seventh place.

Lap seven; Justin Haley has pulled out to a one second lead on Austin Cindric; Justin Allgaier Ty Gibbs, and Riley Herbst round out the top five.

Lap eight, Austin Cindric has cut into leader Justin Haley’s lead which is now just over half a second.

Lap 10, Justin Haley continues to lead the race with a one second lead on Austin Cindric; Ty Gibbs, Justin Allgaier, and Riley Herbst round out the top five. There are 31 cars on the lead lap.

Ryan Sieg is slowed on the track after spinning out but gets moving again.

Lap 12, Riley Herbst passes Justin Allgaier for fourth.

Lap 12, Ryan Sieg spins out again but gets moving again and the track stays green.

Lap 13, Justin Haley has a half second lead on Austin Cindric; Ty Gibbs, Riley Herbst, and Justin Allgaier round out the top five.

Lap 14, with 30 cars on the lead lap, Austin Cindric is beginning to challenge leader Justin Haley.

Lap 15, Austin Cindric passes Justin Haley for the lead.

Austin Cindric has pulled out to a half second lead on Justin Haley.

Will Rodgers spins out and makes a run in the grass but the track stays green.

Ryan Seig has a flat tire and is throwing debris on the track and the caution flag comes out on lap 16.

The wheel comes off of Ryan Sieg’s car and continues to throw debris as he works to make his way to pit road. He comes down pit road even though pit road is closed.

Most of the drivers come down pit road for service and adjustments.

Austin Cindric wins the race off of pit road.

Austin Dillon will have to restart the race from the back of the field after a crew member jumped over the wall too soon.

Riley Herbst brings the field down for the green flag restart with Sage Karam alongside for a two lap shootout to end stage one. Riley Herbst takes the lead; Safe Karam, Jeb Burton, Justin Haley, and Tommuy Joe Martins round out the top five.

Drivers continue to jump the curb and are gettng airborne.

Austin Hill brings out the caution flag after he is stopped on the track with a blown engine on lap 29. Drivers are in their window to complete the race on a single load of fuel.

A few drivers come down pit road for service including Riley Herbst who has some damage to his car.

Kyle Weatherman’s team was charged with having an uncontrolled tire during the pit stop; Weatherman will have to restart the race from the back of the field.

Riley Herbst was charged with having too many crew members over the wall and will have to start form the back of the field.

Austin Cindric brings the field down for the green flag restart with eight laps remaining in stage two. Noah Gragson edges out Cindric on turn one to take the lead.

Lap 33, the top five are Noah Gragson, AJ Allmendinger, Austin Cindric, Justin Haley, and Sam Mayer.

Lap 34, Austin Dillon gets turned around after coming in too hot but gets the car moving again. He drops to the back of the field.

Lap 38, Austin Cindric brings his car down pit road for service and has a few more drivers follow him.

AJ Allmendinger leads the race by over a second on Justin Haley; Noah Gragson is in thrid over four seconds back.

The caution flag comes out on lap 39 for Will Rodgers whose right front of the car is on fire. Rodgers is out of the car safely.

Justin Allgaier came down pit road but NASCAR said that he pitted when pit road was closed.

After staying out on the track, Ty Gibbs brings the field down for the green flag start of stage three with Austin Cindric alongside with 19 lpas remaining in the race. Ty Gibbs jumps out in front for the lead.

Sam Mayer makes a run through the grass and hits the tire wall hard. He gets moving again but stops on the track with heavy front end damage. The track stays green.

With 17 laps remaining in the race, Austin Cindric has a lead of nearly a second and a half on Myatt Snider; AJ Allmendinger, Chase Elliott, and Ty Gibbs round out the top five.

Sam Mayer is out of the race.

Lap 48, Austin Cindric has pulled out to a lead of nearly a second and a half on Myatt Snider.

Lap 49, Austin Cindric has increased his lead to three seconds on Myatt Snider; AJ Allmendinger, Chase Elliott, and Ty Gibbs round out the top five.

There are 25 cars on the lead lap with Josh Bilicki the only car one lap down. There are 10 cars out of the race.

Lap 50, Austin Cindric has a lead of nearly four seconds on AJ Allmendinger; Chase Elliott, Myatt Snider, and Justin Haley round out the top five.

Lap 53, Austin Cindric continues to lead the race with AJ Allmendinger in second; Chase Elliott, Justin Haley, and Myatt Snider round out the top five.

Lap 54, Ty Gibbs takes fifth form Myatt Snider.

Eight laps remain in the race; Austin Cindric has a lead of over three and a half seconds on AJ Allmendinger; Chase Elliott, Justin Haley, and Ty Gibbs round out the top five.

Five laps remain in the race, Ty Gibbs gives up fifth place to make a trip down pit road for fuel. Gibbs comes back out on the track in 15th.

With just four laps remaining in the race, Austin Cindric has a near four second lead on AJ Allmendinger; Chase Elliott, Justin Haley, and Myatt Snider round out the top five.

Wtih two laps to go, Justin Haley gets around Chase Elliott for third. Noah Gragson takes fifth.

Currently AJ Allmendinger and Marcus Ambrose have five road course wins in the Xfinity Series. Austin Cindric has four and will tie for the lead if he wins the race.

In a rare event – Dad is at the track to watch – Austin Cindric wins the race to give Penske a Saturday sweep. Austin’s dad works for Penske. Cindric was singing in the car on the cool down lap.
