Long gone are the days of just three television stations – four if you were lucky enough to get a PBS station in your area. Today viewers have numerous choices when it comes to watching television programs form the traditional channels to cable channels and a variety of streaming options.

This year in the annual Prime Time Emmy Award nominations all of them are represented with the streaming services leading the list of nominees. “the Crown” fro Netflix and “The Mandalorian” on Disney + top the list with 24 nominations each.

“WandaVision”, “Ted Lasso”, “Hacks”, “Mare of Easttown”, “The Handmaid’s Tale”, “Saturday Night Live”, “The Queen’s Gambit”, “Bridgerton”, “Hamilton”, and “Lovecraft Country” all garnered doulbe digit nominations. “The Flight Attendant”, “I May Destroy You”, “Pose”, and “Cobra Kai” also earned multiple nominations.

Actor Mj Rodriguez in “Pose” became the first person who identifies as trans to be nominated for an Emmy Award in a leading role. Continuing to recognize a world of diversity, nearly half of the nominees were performers of colour.

The 2021 edition of the Prime Time Emmy Awards will take place on September 19 in a live event with Cedric the Entertainer as the host.
