On May 26, 2021 NASCAR suspended Hendrick Motorsports spotter Eddie D’Hondt when it was discovered he had been arrested in Catawba Country, North Carolina.

At the time of the suspension, NASCAR stated that it was indefinite; however, on June 18 officials announced that D’Hondt has been re-instated, effective immediately and has had his membership privileges restored.

Hendrick Motorsports spoke on the re-instatement via statement saying, “we are pleased about the resolution of this matter and look forward to Eddie D’Hondt re-joining our team this weekend at Nashville Superspeedway.”

D’Hondt also spoke on his return to NASCAR via a statement saying he is, “very pleased with today’s announcement of dismissal.” He added that he is, “grateful that based on the diligent efforts of his defense team the District Attorney was able to process this case and ultimately decide it had no merit and the charges levied against him were totally unfounded.”

D’Hondt was suspended for violating the NASCAR rule book by not reporting the arrest.

NASCAR has also re-instated Kurt Bbutcher after he has completed the Road to Recovery program. The Sam Hunt Racing hauler driver was suspended April 13 for violating NASCAR’s Substance Abuse policy.
