Iconic Rap artist DMX died April 9, 2021 in White Plains, New York as a result of a massive heart attack at the age of 50. His was surrounded by family at the time of his death.

DMX was known for his gruff voice and thoughtful messages in his lyrics. Speaking on DMX, his label Def Jam Recordings said, “his message of triumph over struggle, his search for the light out of darkness, his pursuit of truth and grace brought us closer to our own humanity.” Adding that the artists was, “nothing less than a giant”.

But the rapper also had his share of difficulties in dealing with addiction and legal matters.

He burst onto the music scene in 1998 with his chart topping debut album “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot”. The album went on to be certified four times platinum for selling four million copies. It was the first of five albums to be certied platinum and multi-platinum.

He was named The Favourite Rap or Hip-Hop artist in the 2000 American Music Awards.

As a part of the Ruff Ryders, DMX helped to launch the musical careers of Eve and Swizz Beatz and helped to relaunch The Lox’s career.

More than just a rapper, DMX made his way to the big screen where he appeared in over three dozen productions including “South Park”, “Romeo Must Die”, “Exit Wounds”, “Cradle 2 the Grave”, “Third Watch”, “Last Hour”, “Fresh Off the Boat”, “The After Party”, “Beyond the Law”, “Chronicle of a Serial Killer”, and numerous music videos.

“Fast Vengeance” was in post production and “Doggmen” was being filmed at the time of his death.

His music has appeared in over 70 productions including “South Park”, “Light it Up”, “Any Given Sunday”, “Romeo Must Die”, “Gone in 60 Seconds”, “Exit Wounds”, “The Fast and the Furious”, “Without a Trace”, “Half Past Dead”, “Cold Case”, “Yu-Gi-Oh!”, “Friday Night Lights”, “Deadpool”, the 2016 “Ghostbusters”, “American Dad!”, “Godfather of Harlem”, and “Hamilton”.

He was born Earl Simmons on December 18, 1970 in Mount Vernon, New York. He spent some time in children’s homes as a child; which is where he got his stage name DMX – from the name on a drum machine.

DMX’s survivors include his mother and children.
