As SRX Racing – Superstar Racing Experience – prepares to launch its inaugural season, more drivers are signing on to participate in some of the races.
SRX features drivers from a number of different racing series including NASCAR, IndyCar Racing, Late Model, and Formula 1.
Greg Biffle, Scott Speed, and Scott Bloomquist have all signed up to run a partiial schedule of the six race season set to begin June 12 at Stafford Motor Speedway in Connecticut.
Tony Stewart, Tony Kanaan, Paul Tracy, Bobby Labonte, Willy T. Ribbs, Bill Elliott, Ernie Francis Jr, Marco Andretti, Helio Castroneves, and Michael Waltrip have already signed up to run the full schedule.
Greg Biffle will run five of the six races beginning with the June 12 race. He will return on July 10 and will race for the remainder of the season.
Scott Speed will run his first race on June 26 on the dirst at Eldora Speedway. Speed will also race at Lucas Oil Raceway.
Scott Bloomquist is set to run only one race – on the dirt at Knoxville, Tennessee.
Greg Biffle retured from full time NASCAR racing in 2016 but has made a couple of starts in the Camping World Truck Series over the past few years. Biffle has won 55 races during his career.
Saying that he had to pinch himself when he got the call, Biffle said, “what excites me the most about SRX is the opportunity to get to race with such a wealth of talented drivers. It’s unbelievable, the talent level in this series, and to be able to compete with these guys is a chance of a lifetime.” He added, I’m super excited about the opportunity to be able to come and be part of this series, getting off the ground and starting out with it. It’s going to be fun.”
When Scott Speed retired in 2013, he had made 118 NASCAR Cup Series starts with only one win at Talladega Superspeedway. He has also made 28 Formula 1 starts.
Speed spoke on the opportunity to race in SRX saying, “this is all a clean sheet of paper and we’re going to have to adapt quickly. Obviously, the experience that guys like Tony (Stewart) and Ray (Evernham) have is going to play a big role in our success. It’s a new car, it’s a new tire, everything is so new – it’s going to be who adapts quickly to the situation.” He added, “it’s going to change from race to race, and I love that about SRX. There won’t be a ton of practice, there’s not a lot of experience from anybody in these cars on these tracks, and that’s quite a fun thing to be able get yourself into as a driver.”
Scott Bloomquist has made over 600 starts in Late Model racing on the dirt with 94 career wins. He also has 33 wins in the World of Outlaws.
Bloomquist spoke on being a part of SRX saying, “I’ve had a long career and have been able to do a lot of cool things in racing, and SRX is right up there with some of the coolest things I’ve been a part of in motorsports. It’s not often you can get such a diverse group of talent on one racetrack with an equal playing field in equal racecars, and I think what Tony and Ray have done with SRX is going to be very exciting for fans.” Bloomquist also noted that, “I also think, as racers, we’re going to find ourselves having a blast behind the wheel.”
