With few exceptions, the annual NASCAR All Star Race has been run on the mile and a half track at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Ft Worth, Texas.
In 2021 the All Star race will be run for the first time at Texas Motor Speedway; and with a new track, comes a new format. And only green flag laps will count.
A non-points race, the winner will earn $900,000 and the team with the fastest pit crew in a mandatory pit stop during the race will receive a $100,000 prize.
The race itself will feature 100 laps broken down into six rounds or “stages”…
No qualifying rounds, the starting lineup will be set by a random draw.
After lap 15, part of the field will be inverted – anywhere from eight to 12 cars based on a random draw.
After lap 30 the entire field will be inverted.
After lap 45, part of the field will again be inverted – between eight and 12 cars depending on the random draw.
Stage four is 15 laps, no inversions.
At this point all drivers must come down pit road for a four time pit stop. After the “money stop” the field will be set by cumulative finishes from best to worst.
Stage six will be a 10 lap shootout with no inversions or lineup changes.
Texas Motor Speedway president and GM Eddie Gossage said, “drivers and pit crews better pack their lunch pails because they are going to have to work extremely hard to earn the honor of celebrating in Victory Lane.”
Pre-race ceremonies will include an old fashioned Western theme complete with a “metal rodeo” for a “big ol’ bag of dough.”
The rules package for the race will feature the superspeedway set-up.
To date 17 drivers have qualified for to run in the All-Star race:

Any driver who wins a race who has not already won between now and the All Star race in June will also earn a spot in the lineup.
Prior to the main race on June 13, the All Star Open will run, giving more drivers the opportunity to race in the main event. The Open will include three segments of 20, 20, and 10 laps. Each segment winner and the overall winner will earn a spot in the All Star Race.
A driver will also make it in the main event via the fan vote.
